The Kronborg Castle near Halsingor

This castle is one of the most popular sites to visit in denmark. It is famous for being the inspiration for the castle "Elsinore" in Shakespeares play Hamlet. The castle, known as Krogborg Slot, can be found on the northernmost tip of the Danish island of Zealand. Originally built in the the sixteenth century, King Frederick II transformed the small fortress into a magnificent Renaissance castle.

The Original Legoland in Billund

Billund, Denmark is home to the world's oldest Legoland. The park was first opened in 1968 and still attracts thousands of vistors today. The park has many attractions and fun rides for people of all ages. With new indoor activities, exhibitions, and thrill rides this is is definitely a great place to stop. The coolest part is almost everything is made out of lego blocks!

Amelieborg Castle in Copenhagen

The Amelieborg Castle is in Denmark's capital, Copenhagen. It serves as the winter residence of the Danish royal family. It is a stunning example of Rococo architecture in Denmark. The palace, which includes four separate buildings and a courtyard, was built for the royal family in the 18th century. Visitors have accesses to two of the buildings and can witness the changing of the guard daily.

The Oresund Bridge

This is a massive structure that connects Copenhagen in Denmark with Sweden. This giant bridge, strtching nearly 10 kilometers, was opened in 2000. It is the largest rail and road bridge in Europe. Quite a sight to see!

The Trip

The Flights

My flight leaves from Syracuse at 4:08 pm on Monday, August 19th. I land at JFK in New York at 5:35 p.m. I leave on the red eye flight for Copenhagen at 730 p.m., arriving at 9:45 a.m. local time. On my return home, on August 26th, I leave Copenhagen at 6:00 a.m., arriving in Amsterdam at 7:25. Then I leave at 8:15 and arrive in Detroit at 10:25 a.m. My flight leaves from Detroit at 12:25 p.m. and arrives back in Syracuse at 1:44.

I leave Syracuse at 4:08 p.m. to head to New York, then continue onto Copenhagen.

August 20th

I arrive in Copenhagen at 9:45 a. m. I will spend the day exploring the city of Copenhagen, looking around and visiting local stores, sites, and restaurants. I will spend the night at the Copenhagen Downtown Youth Hostel.

August 21st

Today I will spend visiting The Amelieborg Castle in Copenhagen. I will again spend the night at the Copenhagen Downtown Youth Hostel.

August 22nd

I will spend the day traveling to go see the giant Oresund Bridge on the outskirts od Copenhagen. This is the bridge that connects Denmark and Sweden. Tonight, I will spend the night at the Youth Hostel the Hotel Jorgensen.

August 23rd

Today I will take a train from Copenhagen to Halsingor to visit the Kronborg Castle. I will spend the day in this city exploring. Then at night I will stay at the Hotel Skandia in Halsingor.

August 24th

Today I will take a train back to Billund, Denmark, where I will visit the original LEGOLAND!

I will spend the day there and the night at the Hanne Hjem Youth Hostel in Billund.

August 25th

Today I will travel back to Copenhagen on a train. I will spend the day enjoying the sites of the capital city. That night I will stay at the Hotel Loeven Youth Hostel in Copenhagen.
