Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
How the days roll by quickly when you are having fun! We are down to our final two months of school and we are jam-packed with items such as testing, events/activities, field trips, assemblies, and graduation.
We have a few days over seven weeks left in this school year and we will be kicking off our Finish Strong Campaign with our students, which encourages them to continue to uphold Violet’s behavior expectations of being kind, helpful, and caring. This campaign encourages them to put their best foot forward to earn tickets to place their names in a weekly drawing. We have some great prizes to give away! This program will run through the end of this school year, so please encourage your student to “Finish Strong.”
There are so many special people that have come in and out of the doors here at Violet Elementary. Most call them, Volunteers! The dictionary defines that word as a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. We call them, Family! Without this loyal group of people, our students would not get to experience what it means to give back. So I want to send out this huge THANK YOU, from all of us here who have the privilege of working with your children. PTO, Watch Dog Dads, VIP’s, Parents, you have been amazing this school year!
Safety Drills Continue through End of Year
The safety and security of our students is our top priority. That’s why every Pickerington School is required by law to perform annual drills designed to ensure our students and staff are prepared in the event of emergencies.
Such drills are a part of every buildings emergency plan. Plans for these drills are developed in cooperation with and assistance of local law enforcement, fire departments, and the Department of Homeland Security. The purpose of these drills is to train and improve.
Safety and security drills
Six fire drills: We hold six drills between August and May. These drills require a complete building evacuation. One drill must be held within the first 10 days of school. At Violet, we have 2 remaining this school year.
Four tornado drills: Schools hold one drill in the fall and three drills between March and May. These drills involve moving students to the more structurally secure locations within our building, away from windows. At Violet, we have 3 remaining this school year.
Three lockdown drills: Each school performs three lockdown/intruder drills between the months of August and May. The first drill must occur before December. These drills may include either a building evacuation or a lockdown (sometimes known as “shelter in place.”) Local law enforcement agents are on site and participate in these drills. At Violet, we have 2 remaining this school year.3rd and 4th Grade State Testing
Our students have been working on skills and strategies to help them be successful on Spring assessments. It is extremely important that your students are here every day of testing. Please make every effort to have students arrive to school on time. Students will not be permitted to go to their classroom once testing has started. Please make sure all doctor’s appointments are made outside of these dates. Once testing has started, students will not be allowed to leave the classroom for dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
