Counselor's Corner

According to legislation from Indiana Dept. of Education, each public school shall provide age appropriate instruction on child abuse and sexual abuse to students in grades K-12. This instruction will be happening during the month of November at NVE. The following resource will be the basis for instruction in our elementary school: https://barbarasinatrachildrenscenter.org/ If you have any questions after reviewing the curriculum or would like your child not to participate, please contact Mary Driver (mdriver@jcsc.org) or Kelli Gambrel (kgambrel@jcsc.org)

Reminders from Food Service

  • Last minute menu changes are occurring frequently and are out of our control due to the nationwide food supply chain issues. Our printed and online menus may not reflect these changes. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
  • NVE will be offering a-la-carte items for students in grades 4-6. These items are additional items, not part of the regular meal and can be purchased for an additional small cost. A-la-carte items will consist of a variety of whole grain cookies, crackers, snacks and 100% juice permitted by the IDOE. It is important to note that the meals students receive, separate from the a-la-carte items, meet USDA guidelines and criteria set forth. The items being sold are extra portions on top of the complete meal.

If you have any questions regarding your school's menu, please contact the NVE.

FREE Breakfast & Lunch

JCSC has the opportunity to offer free breakfast and free lunch to all students again this year. Please take advantage of this exciting and nutritional service! The only thing that would cost money is if your student got an extra milk for $0.50 each.

Bus Policy Update

Students are not currently allowed to ride the school bus with a friend after school. This is a measure that is being taken to keep bus spacing and prevent the spread of Covid. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Box Tops for Education (Flyer)

Help raise money for your school! All you have to do is scan your receipts after shopping. See the flyer for more information. Thank you to our NVE PTO for creating another way for us to support our students!

Boys & Girls Club of Jennings County (link)

Aftercare is available at NVE every day until 5:30pm. Cost is $50 for the entire year. Before care is also available from 5:30am - class starts. Cost is $5/day or $20/wk. For more info email tabitha@bgcjennings.org

Waterford Pre-K Program (flyer)

Waterford Upstart is a school-readiness program that teaches preschool-ages children basic skills they need in reading, math, and science. If interested visit waterford.org/upstart.

Water Bottles

Students are able to have and should have a water bottle during the school day. Proper hydration is crucial to students being able to focus and learn and this year, with the water fountains not usable, our bottle fillers are the only source of water for students. We give students a disposable cup if they forgot their water bottle but please make sure your student has a water bottle to use at school regularly. This will help with healthy learning habits

IMPORTANT: Car Pick Up Safety

"As you wait in line to drop off or pick up students at NVE, please make sure that you are staying on the correct side of the road. Even though it may be tempting to "jump line" by driving on the opposite side of the road to get into our parking lot, this creates a very dangerous situation for oncoming traffic on such a narrow road. Please model patience, grace and safety for our students as you drop off and pick up your student. We appreciate your help in making NVE a safer place!"

Title 1 Literacy Tip of the Week

Find some recipes together that your child might like to cook for a family treat. Be there to help your child as they read through the recipe, get all the ingredients and create the final result.

Birthday Celebrations

Just a quick reminder, that if your student will be celebrating a birthday and you are wanting to bring classroom celebration goodies, please check-in with your students teacher for a good day to bring those in. Also, the goodies will need to be individually wrapped and store bought.

Thank You!
