Newsletter Week Ten Term Two
St Claudine Thevenet 6th July 2022
A message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We were delighted to see so many parents join us for the whānau conversations last week. It was a wonderful turnout with over 80% of families meeting with teachers. It was great for us to hear about your aspirations for your child and to give us the insight into how your child feels about school. We also really appreciate all your ideas about how we can reignite our spirit of community post covid. We look forward to planning some events to bring us all together and celebrate our unique community. Thank you so much for your input.
As we head in to the final week of Term two we look back with gratitude for the way our students have engaged with their learning. It has been fantastic to see the progress they have made in the first half of the year.
Last week I shared the Mid-year Data report with the School Board. This reports on the achievement of all of our students in our vital curriculum – Reading, Writing and Maths. You can view this report in this newsletter.
I will be on leave from school next term on a Principal Sabbatical. Ms. Page will be acting Principal and Mrs. Wilson acting Deputy Principal. I wish the school community every blessing for the term ahead.
As a staff we hope you and your families have a wonderful break and that this break gives us all time to rest and recover from any illnesses that have been doing the rounds in our school and wider community.
Happy Holidays

Term Three Overview
Staffing & Room changes
Staffing Changes
In Week 8 we farewelled Mr Thomas our caretaker. He has moved to another role. We took time at a special morning tea to say thank him for all he had contributed to our community over the last 5 years and to wish him well in his new job. We have appointed a new caretaker – Mr Rob Spinks will be starting on Monday 25 July.
On Friday we farewell Mr Taylor – Mr Taylor currently teaches in Hinau Toru. He is travelling to Canada to spend time with his father who is terminally ill. He will then be travelling to the UK to spend time with other family. We appreciate the work he has done for students in both Totara and Hinau during his time with us.
Room Changes
We recently found out that the roof in Hinau block needs replacing. At a recent meeting with the Property Manager from the Archdiocese and the Project Manager from Maycroft Construction we were informed that the three classes in that block will need to be relocated in order for the work to go ahead. Rather than disturb the classes twice we have made a decision to move all three classes ( 63 Students) to the Fale which will become the Hinau Hub for the remainder of the year. The students will have Ms Bolam, Ms Rasmussen and Ms Mu as their fulltime teachers and learning support. Ms Casley will also be a part of the Hub for her two days a week teacher placement. We know that the new environment will be a little different for the students and have every confidence in the staff to create a vibrant hub for our Year 5 and 6 students to learn in. The students will begin the new term in their Hinau Hub.
