Swim With Our School…The Silver Springs PTA
Thank you to everyone who has joined our PTA this past week. Please return the form that was in your child’s Monday envelope so we can have an entire SCHOOL of fish in the display case. The SS Springs PTA benefits all our students, teachers, and school. There is no obligation to join…just show your support by joining.
Your child will receive an ocean themed pencil when you join the PTA.
Thank you for swimming into the school year with us…the SS PTA!

Get Caught In This…Invest In Your Child
We encourage all our Silver Springs families to give what they can to help ensure the SS PTA can support and fund all we do for our students, teacher, and school. Your donation is tax deductible. You don’t have to be a PTA member to help this important fundraising campaign. This is a fuss free way to raise money for our PTA. Look for the GOLDFISH option of IIYC for this year.
Thank you to all the families who have made a donation so far. It is greatly appreciated. You are helping to make a difference at Silver Springs. We want to help make educational and rewarding experiences and memories at Silver Springs.
Swim with our SCHOOL…the Silver Springs PTA!

Young Rembrandts
This fall begins with a rendering of a stylized tarantula and continues with a study of Van Gogh’s unique style of sunflowers. Each student will create a unique scarecrow and a tasty still life of taffy apples - proving that shading and color combinations can please anyone’s sweet tooth! A favorite, Emoji’s, return in a collage format. All budding artists continue to have fun learning foundational skills that will last a lifetime!
Please see the attachment for enrollment information.

Jump over the MOON with Robotics!
In order to foster an early interest in science and engineering, Silver Springs will start their first Robotic team!
We will start with FIRST LEGO League Jr for Grade K-3. This robotic league is a non-competitive robotic program designed for young kids between 6-10.
These teams will use LEGO bricks to build a rocket and will use the Lego WEDO 2.0 kit to solve the Challenge. The robot is programmed with a drag and drop app on a phone, tablet, or laptop. Don't worry -- it's an easy app interface designed for young students. There are no programming skills required. The 2018 theme for the robotic challenge is MISSION MOON. So let's start our Moon Mission with a new Silver Springs Robotic team!!

Silver Springs Recycling-Pizza Boxes
We are looking for volunteers to take the pizza boxes from Silver Springs to the Novi Recycling Center. Pizza is offered for lunch on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Fridays. The boxes are gathered and put into the PTA room (off the gym). After about two weeks they need to be taken to the recycling center at 26300 Lee BeGole Dr, Novi, MI 48375 (just off 11 mile near Novi Town Center). Boxes can be dumped into any of the dumpsters there (no plastic bags though).
If you are able to help please sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0c48a8aa2fab9-silver1 ! Boxes can be collected from the school any time it is open and then taken to the recycling center at your convenience. It doesn't have to be the specific day on the sign up.
Thanks for your help!

Scouting at Silver Springs
You and your family are personally invited to join our Cub Scout Pack at our open house at 7pm on Wednesday, September 12th at Silver Springs. We’re now registering both boys and girls in grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade. At the open house, we’ll have activities to entertain the kids, while we share a little about Cub Scouts, our action-packed plans for the year, and answer any questions parents have.
Anyone not able to attend can still join or find out more about Cub Scouts by contacting Cubmaster Jason Wilburn @ jason.m.wilburn@gmail.com.
As a side note, our annual fundraiser activity is currently ongoing with the goal of raising enough money to buy and install a Gaga Ball Pit on the school’s playground. Anyone interested in helping to support Cub Scouts in their goal, either through our Popcorn sale or donations, can contact us directly.

Girls on the Run
ATTENTION PARENTS OF 3rd-5th grade girls
NOTE: I AM IN NEED OF ANOTHER PARENT WHO CAN ATTEND PRACTICES AND THE 5K
I am interested in re-establishing a Girls on the Run (GOTR) program at Silver Springs.
GOTR is a program run by local YMCAs. The focus is to inspire girls to be on the move, be healthy, and focus on their well-being. Please see the link below for more information about GOTR.
The fall season begins on September 17th and ends on Sunday, November 18th with a 5k run on Belle Isle.
Practice sessions would be at Silver Springs immediately after school 2 days per week. (Monday and Thursday) from 3:45-5:00pm.
From the GOTR website:
Registration Fee: Building confidence and setting young girls down the path of a healthy lifestyle is PRICELESS! However, there are real costs associated with operating a non-profit organization and delivering the Girls on the Run program to approximately 1,900+ girls in the Southeastern Michigan area each year. Registration is $165* per girl and includes:
- 20 ninety-minute sessions conducted by certified GOTR volunteer coaches
- Curriculum and lesson materials
- A healthy snack at each session
- Official GOTR T-shirt and water bottle
- 5K Registration fee
- 5K Medal
- Post 5k celebration
