Merry Christmas

I wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you are able to enjoy time with your families over the break. I also wanted to tell you that I appreciate all of the things you do to help your children succeed here at school.

We are still working with fractions in both fifth and sixth grade this week. The students will have a review packet to work on over break so they don't forget the skills we are working on. Students also have an answer key to check their own work. When students find an incorrect answer, they should be looking back at the steps they took in order to see where they went wrong. I would like to see them try those problems again after they have reviewed the steps. Review packets are due on Monday, January 5.

In addition to our literature circles this week, we have been working on using evidence from the text to support and prove answers. Students worked on making predictions and supporting their answers with details from paragraphs they read.

Students have literature circle work to complete over break. Remember, any reading done outside of school should be entered on their reading logs.

Social Studies

The fifth graders have finished studying the first English settlements in North America. After Christmas they will be learning about the thirteen colonies.

The sixth graders are working on a timeline to show important events in the early history of Canada. Timelines are due after Christmas.
