George Herbert Walker Bush Elementary

Fun times at Bush Elementary!

Tuesday was DISD's Principal for a Day event. We were honored to have Steve Harris from Holmes-Murphy be our principal. Mr. Harris is also the brother of our very own, Natalie McCandless. Last Friday, several students participated in the WT White Feeder Night at the high schoool football game. The students got to run through the inflatable longhorn before the football game. Thursday, WT White football players game to our school to promote the NFL's Play 60 program. Thank you Ms. Trista for organizing this fun event.

Professional Development vs. Professional Learning Communities

Numerous studies have questioned the effectiveness of Professional Development. When you think of your experience, how many professional development sessions have you attended where you actually implemented what you learned at the session into your classroom. Even with the best intentions, it is difficult. Professional Learning Communities, when done well, offer the opportunity to actually change the outcomes for our students. Watch the video below from the expert on PLCs, Richard Dufour. Look for more information soon from the coaches about PLCs.

College of the Week

This week, Texas A&M Commerce was our featured university on the morning announcements. This video gives us a virtual tour of the university. Just think of all the virtual field trips our students could take on the internet!

Kudos

Ms. Holt found a cute, creative way to display her students' reading levels. Her students are excited to see their faces on the wall and they are proud as their reading improves and they can move higher up the wall.
