Burchfield's Bulletin
April 9-13, 2018 (School Days 138-142)
A Note from Me
For those who do not know, I love perfect weather - not 30s, not 100s. Because of this fact, I stayed in the comfort of my house on Saturday. Mark was working and my daughter was in Austin for a 10K Run. There are not many days that I have just to relax and reflect for a few hours by myself. (By the way, I was very glad when everyone got home.) I hope you all found some time to enjoy your weekend as well.
As we ready ourselves for this week, know that some students will be assessed for their year's progress but the year's end has not arrived. Even our 5th graders have other measures of progress for the year. Of course STAAR is the most public measure of progress and accountability, but this administration is just the first stop. We all will continue to prepare for the final grading period and all that it will bring with it.
Speaking of STAAR, many of you will be directly involved in the administration of the 5th math and reading STAAR. I have to say thanks to Sheri and Dave for all of their preparation and guidance for us to make this an error free administration. It is so easy to have an irregularity but I am confident that each of you have read the manuals, completed the online trainings, and asked necessary questions. Therefore, we will all do our very best to do the expected and keep the administration free and clear of error.
In closing I want to say that I appreciate the hard work you have done during the first 5 grading periods of the year. You have worked hard to individualize learning plans for your students so they can grow from wherever they were to greater heights. This final grading period is packed full of assessments with a lot of fun mixed throughout. Please make sure to keep the main thing the main thing so that every target is hit and we can all wrap up the year very accomplished.
Looking Forward,
Joy

BrightBytes
Burleson ISD is partnering with BrightBytes, an educational software company, to learn more about our District’s technology use for student learning. Our goal is to gather data from all key stakeholders on technology access and skills, and on our district’s technology environment, in order to understand the connection between technology use and student achievement. This survey is for grades 3-12, teachers, administrators, and librarians. We also have specific surveys for students and parents. AND we have a specific survey for K-2 teachers that is more appropriate for the age group they teach.
The information from BrightBytes helps to guide us in creating our District Technology Planning and will be used as data for the TEA Lending Program Grant we received.
The survey will be open from
April 23-27.

Free Trials for the District:
- PebbleGo Free Trial: LT Lindsay Foster won district-wide access to PebbleGo, a series of six research databases created specifically for elementary schools. The trial will run until the end of the school year. All login information has been shared with the elementary librarians. Please encourage your teachers to take advantage of this amazing resource while it is available to us.
- Screencastify Free Trial: Screencastify allows staff, faculty, and students to record their screen, webcams, and add narration from a PC or Chromebook. Videos are stored in your Google Drive. This is an amazing tool for recording instruction, sharing ideas, training your staff, or asking students to create and present work. Information on the pilot was sent out via All Staff. The pilot will last until the end of the school year. If you or your staff need help taking advantage of the free premium account trial, contact any LT.
- Flocabulary Free Trial: Flocabulary reached out to BISD and offered a district-wide free premium trial until May 30th. Flocabulary uses music and rap to teach lessons from K-12. All campuses have access to the premium district-level features - INCLUDING CAMPUSES THAT ARE ALREADY PAYING FOR A CAMPUS PACKAGE. Information was sent out via All Staff. If you or your staff need help, contact any LT.
