A Message from Principal Nixon--June 11, 2020

Dear Northwoods Families,

As we prepare to close out the 2020-21 school year, I would like to take a minute to thank you all for an incredible and memorable year! Though I haven't been here long, I have truly fallen in love with the students, staff, and community. Northwoods Elementary is a special place and I am proud and honored to be a part of it!

It goes without saying that these past few months have been difficult for everyone. Despite the many challenges and obstacles they've faced, I am immensely proud of the work our teachers and staff have done to ensure that each of our students has continued to learn and grow during the shutdown. However, I would be remiss if I didn't recognize and thank YOU for your support, and involvement at home. We are genuinely appreciative of your efforts to keep your students engaged and connected with their teachers and classmates! Thank you for your continued partnership!

On behalf of the Northwoods faculty and staff, I wish you a safe and healthy summer break. Take some time to disconnect and enjoy the calm.

With Appreciation,

Joe Nixon

2020-21 School Reopening Plans

Over the last several weeks, I have received several inquiries from parents regarding plans for reopening school in August. Please know that I cannot speak to what the reopening plan may or may not look like. However, I can tell you that district leaders are working diligently to plan and prepare for a variety of reopening scenarios. WCPSS officials will communicate the final details of the reopening plan directly to families over the summer. Once those details have been made available to the public, I will send out a newsletter detailing our plan at Northwoods. Until then, I thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

2020-21 Student Supply Lists

School supply lists for the 2020-21 school year will not be posted on our website until we have a better understanding of what the systems and structures will be in place to support reopening.

Student Belongings

If you have NOT yet picked up your child's belongings, please know that you can stop by the school Monday-Thursday from 8:00 - 4:00 over the summer to do so. Student belongings may also be picked up tomorrow during the parade.

If you no longer want those belongings, please email your child's teacher and we will arrange to discard them.

Library Books/Chromebooks

If your child is not returning to a WCPSS school next year, please return all library books, Chromebooks, and hotspots that your child may have. Otherwise, he/she may keep those items until further notice.

If you still wish to turn in library books, we will have bins available for collection tomorrow during the parade.

End-of-Year Celebration Parades

Please join us tomorrow (rain or shine) for our End-of-Year celebration parades. Informational flyers are below. Due to expected rain showers, families are encouraged to drive. However, walkers are welcome too.

Northwoods Elementary PTA Information

The General PTA meeting that was scheduled for Thursday, June 18th has been cancelled. The PTA board invites parents and community members to attend a General PTA meeting on Tuesday, August 4th at 6:30pm. Once we have the conferencing information, we will post it on the Northwoods Calendar as well as on our PTA website at:

The PTA Nominations Committee is still looking for many volunteers to fill roles and positions for PTA programs for next school year, but we will not be able to "elect" the executive positions/make them official until an in-person General PTA Meeting can be held. Stay tuned for more info as we have it, and please contact if you are interested in volunteering in any way for the 2020-2021 school year!

Thank you all for your continued support of our school community, and we can't wait until we can see you again!
