Why "WIRED" earbuds with mic?
In class, you will often make individual, pair and group recordings using software in an app or on a website.
- These activities are always graded and are often used as assessments.
- Sometimes, the software or app does not make clear, intelligible recordings when students use bluetooth earbuds.
- It is imperative that you bring a pair of wired earbuds as an alternate way of recording. Please bring a pair with you every day.
Technology Guidelines
You are expected to have your tablet or laptop with you daily. You are also expected not to take out your laptop until the teacher has indicated it is needed for that day. When the bell rings, lap tops should be closed and placed in your bookbag. During lessons, you are expected to only have open the websites needed for our classwork. If we are successful in accomplishing our goals for the day, we should have a few minutes at the end of class for you to check school email in case there are important messages from your teachers.

*Integrated Performance Assessment is a classroom-based performance assessment model developed by ACTFL that can be used for evaluating student's communication skills in the three modes of communication (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal) identified in the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages (2015).
Late Work and Make Up Work Guidelines
You are expected to meet all deadlines, but there may be times when you will need to turn work in late. If this happens, you are expected to email me a notification that you will be submitting work late. If you do not notify me or develop a habit of submitting work late, I will contact your parents so that we can make a plan to support better habits. Depending on the circumstances, a penalty of up to but no more than 40% could be deducted from your earned grade on late work.
If you are absent from school for any reason, you are required to email me about your absence on that day so that we can schedule your make up work. This is incredibly important in reference to assessments. Typically, students are required to make up a missed assessment on the day you return to school, providing that you were present on the days before the assessment. If you have consecutive absences leading up to the assessment, we will determine the best course of action.
The Upper School make up work policy follows this progression:
1 day absent - 1 day to make up work
2 days absent - 2 days to make up work
etc.
Academic Honesty
Be proud of your work and take responsibility for your achievements by keeping them your own. Please be aware that the use of AI (artificial intelligence) or a software designed to translate (such as Google Translate or Translate on your phone) is considered cheating. As such, you will receive a zero on the assignment. In addition, you will be referred to the Dean of Students. These matters may be considered at Honor Council.
Click HERE to read the detailed document from the WL Department Honor Code Addendum Policy. You are required to know this information.
It IS acceptable to use wordreference.com as an online dictionary after asking the teacher.
On days where integrated performance assessments and quizzes are taken, do not discuss any information with other students. Students who violate this policy will be turned in to the Honor Council for appropriate action.
