The Manning Weekly Newsletter
May 21, 2021
Manning Community,
Looking ahead at the final week of the 2020-2021 school year, I see some exciting things on the calendar!
Monday and Tuesday are regular school days with some teachers holding finals and turning in projects.
Wednesday we will enjoy some short class periods to allow us some time in the afternoon to do chromebook health checks, hand out yearbooks and next year's schedules, 8th grade certificates and enjoy some much needed fun. We will have some treats for the kiddos to finish out the day!
Mobile Mustangs will have their parade celebration in the afternoon from 3:30-5pm!
Thursday is a special short day for all students.
6th & 7th will arrive as normal and go through an abreviated version of their schedule, where teachers have some fun things planned. Students bring your yearbooks and markers to capture your friends signatures! School will release at 12:30pm.
8th grade will enjoy a picnic provided by the Manning PTA at Maple Grove Park from 9:30-12:30. 8th graders should go directly to the park at 9:30am, no need to stop at school.
Students, I want to thank you for a wonderful year, in spite of all the hurdles and roadblocks we all faced.
Stronger Together,
Christian Ramaker

Medication Pickup!
We have reached the end of the year, and it is time to coordinate medication pick up! I will be in the office from 7:30-2:30pm on Thursday May 27th for medication pick- up. If you would please ring the front office doorbell for pick up, I will check out your child's medication to you. All medication must be checked back out to the parent by the end of the school year (12:30pm Thursday 27th).
I will also be handing out new allergy and asthma forms for the '21-22 school year if needed, or you can request them by email as well.
If you would like to rearrange a different time for medication pick up, please don't hesitate to contact me by phone or email!
Thank you so much and have a lovely summer!
A message from our Digital Teacher about chromebook health
Wednesday May 26, 2021, we will we doing a Chromebook (CB) Health Check for all Manning Students. Prior to the health check, we ask that you clean your CB of any debris, such as food, smears, old residue on the keyboard, screen, and case. They should not have any stickers on the CB, if they do, please remove all stickers prior May 26. Fines may occur if the device is permanently damaged or altered.
Any student not returning to Manning in the fall, they will be turning in their CB at the end of the day. Be sure they bring their CB and charger. Tagging their name on both and wrapping up the charger with the Velcro, will help speed up the turn in process.
If you have any questions, please email Karen Edoff at kedoff@jeffco.k12.co.us.

A Message from the PTA...
8th grade parents: Please plan to pick up a yard sign provided by the Manning PTA on Wednesday, May 26 starting at 2 pm. (Hint: Picking up signs early will help prevent gridlock at dismissal time.) There will be volunteers handing out signs along the pickup lanes. One sign per 8th grader please.
Thank you to the many families who have contributed to the 8th grade picnic on Thursday, May 27! Many families donated very generously, so if you are unable to donate, you are covered! If you would still like to contribute, help out, or provide beverages, please sign up here: Manning Community: Manning 8th grade picnic 2021 (signupgenius.com) Thank you to our 8th grade picnic planners: Erin Allen, Michelle Ziporin, and Robyn Bartling. This group has planned a great event for the 8th grade class!
Thanks to the generosity of the Manning community, we are excited to announce that we will help pay for a new stage floor for the auditorium! We are especially grateful to have the support of this community in a year of uncertainty and distancing.
Many hands make light work! In order to prepare for the 21/22 school year, we would like to have a few volunteers lined up before the start of the school year in August. Some of these are short-term projects and only require a few weeks’ time, and others will be a one or two-year post. Here are our most pressing needs:
- Reflections chair: Are you passionate about the arts? Would you like to help organize and promote the PTA Reflections contest at Manning? We have many talented artists at Manning, and they would love to submit their work for this program. The contest runs in the early fall and is a short-term commitment.
- PTA Website: Are you comfortable using Word Press to put content onto a website? This position can be done completely virtually and will take a few hours over the course of the year.
- PTA Secretary: This is a board position. The Secretary attends meeting and takes the minutes, and facilitates communication about the PTA between the school staff, the PTA, and Manning families. This is a one year commitment.
- PTA Vice President: The role of the VP is to attend monthly PTA meetings and learn about the PTA in order to serve as President for the 22/23 school year. This is a two year commitment.
- PTA Treasurer: This is the big one! One of the primary functions of the Manning PTA is to support the school by raising money. Hence, the role of the Treasurer is vital to our mission, and is a bigger time commitment that requires basic Quickbooks knowledge to manage the income and expenses of the PTA. But hey, if you want to partner with a friend to take this on, we’re all for it! This is a one year commitment.

A message of goodbye and good luck
Dear Staff, Students, and Parents:
On the eve of my retirement from teaching, I would like to personally thank all of you for a wonderful 19 years at Manning! It has been an honor to work with you all. In my 30-year career, I learned one important lesson: success occurs when we all work together -- the perfect "triangle" -- parents/guardians, students, and staff. The Manning School really strives to incorporate this philosophy!
I would also like to share the "passion project" that I just completed, in honor of Manning and the thematic-based literature that we teach in 7th-grade. Since one of the books that we teach is set in 1933 Mississippi, -- Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor -- my goal was to donate funds to the recently-opened Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and to get The Manning School recognized as a supporter. This was finally completed last week! It is my gift to Manning for the past, present, and future hard work and endeavors of our students.
Best of luck to you all, and take care, and thanks for the support all these years.
Sincerely,
Anita Claussen
