Winters' Wonderings
Week of October 1-5, 2018
The Week in Review...
- Continued to introduce the 7 Mindsets by discussing goal setting and how it is important to reach for the stars even if it's a goal that seems nearly impossible to achieve right now. Just because you can't do something YET doesn't mean that you CAN'T!
We learned the quote: Whether you BELIEVE you CAN or you BELIEVE
you CAN'T...YOU'RE RIGHT!
BELIEVE AND YOU WILL ACHIEVE! - Read Henry and Mudge and worked on Story Structure. We can identify the characters, setting and problem in the story, as well as the events in the beginning, middle and end. We will continue to work on this with several more stories over the next few weeks!
- Learned about Subjects (telling part) and Predicates (doing part) in sentences.
- Took our first spelling test! We did pretty well overall! Keep practicing at home.
- Worked on drawing closed polygons. This is very tricky, but it was fun to learn how to do it!
- Learned about Bus Safety. We learned it is a privilege, not a right to ride the bus. All we need to do in order to earn the privilege is to follow the safety rules! The bus drivers just want us to get home safely!
- Enjoyed Homecoming Dress Up Days! It's so fun to see what everyone comes up with!
- Had an absolute BLAST at the FUND RUN on Friday!! Thank you to the parents, families and friends that came out to support our students and who gave generous donations to Park! Everyone had such a fantastic time!
7 Mindsets Video this week for DREAM BIG. Questions we will talk about: What was his dream? Why didn't he give up? What is YOUR dream?

Spelling list
A few words about Spelling:
- I differentiate the spelling lists-there are 3 different lists based on needs of each student. Your student should know which list they are on. If they don't, please email me and I will gladly let you know.
- They are not set to these lists, they can move back or forward depending on where I see their skill development.
- Spelling is not like it was when we were in school. I do not place enormous amounts of emphasis on one test score. So please don't get upset about one "bad" score. It is much more about understanding the concept and the ability to apply the spelling pattern in their writing than it is a single test.
If you have questions regarding this, please don't hesitate to email me.
