Principal's Note: Celebrations!!!
Thank you to all of our Sherwood families and staff for supporting McTeacher Night. It was wonderful to see so many pandas at McDonalds! We raised $1050.00 for our school! This is a new record! Thank you!!!
FUNd Run 2019
Although, Braeside took home the trophy for the highest percentage of participants (congrats Braeside!), Sherwood has news to share as well! We increased our participation by 50% compared to last year and that too is something to celebrate!!! We are so proud, and we will be organizing EXTRA RECESS for all of our students! GO PANDAS!

Reminder: Pumpkin Book Character Contest
Message from Mrs. Weiss:
Join the fun at Sherwood’s 5th Annual Pumpkin Book Character Contest! Decorate a pumpkin to look like your favorite book character!
The purpose of the contest is to promote books and celebrate reading at Sherwood. This is an optional activity to be completed at home.
Contest Rules:
- Decorate a pumpkin to represent a favorite book character.
- The title of the book, author, and name of the book character must be included on the entry form. Entry forms will be given to participating students. Please bring completed forms in with your pumpkin.
- Absolutely no carved pumpkins. You may decorate your pumpkin using paint, markers, paper and glue, fabric, duct tape, or any other craft items. Be creative!
- Students can use a real pumpkin or an artificial one. Real pumpkins must be fresh and uncut. Any pumpkins that are punctured or deteriorating will be sent home.
- Do not write your name on the pumpkin anywhere. Mrs. Weiss will number your pumpkin when you turn it in.
- Pumpkins should be dropped off to the library on Monday morning, Oct. 28th by 9:00am. Please do not send pumpkins to school before October 28th. Pumpkins will be displayed in the library.
- Students from each class will be voting for their favorite pumpkin in each category. The winning pumpkins will be announced on Oct. 31st and all pumpkins will be displayed in front of the school for parents to view before the parade (weather permitting).
- All pumpkins must be taken home on Thursday, Oct. 31st. Any unclaimed pumpkins will be disposed of at 3:30 on Thursday, Oct. 31st.
Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the student whose pumpkin receives the most votes in the following categories:
Kindergarten - 1st Grade
2nd Grade - 3rd Grade
4th Grade - 5th Grade
Family Category - We will have a family/sibling category for:
- Students who do not decorate their pumpkins mostly by themselves but receive a lot of assistance from their parents.
- Families who want to complete a pumpkin together as a family activity.
- Students who choose to submit one pumpkin with their sibling(s)
One winner from each category will receive a gift card to Barnes & Noble.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Weiss at hweiss@nssd112.org.
Happy pumpkin decorating!

2:00pm: Parade
2:15pm: Classroom Parties
2:50pm: Halloween Festivities End
3:13pm: Dismissal
Due to our buses needing to access our east parking lot at 3:00pm, we have moved our Halloween parade start time to 2:00pm on October 31st. Halloween parties will begin at 2:15pm and end at 2:50pm. So that our buses can access our east parking lot, please make sure you are not parked on Stratford past 2:50pm. Parents may line up in attended cars for dismissal on Stratford per usual.
Our Halloween parade will take place outside, weather permitting. If we experience inclement weather, the parade will take place inside. Due to safety and space, parents will not be admitted into the building. Let's hope for clear skies!
