Senior Spotlight - Juliahna Jack

Juliahna, also known as, “Julie” or “JJ” lives in Bluff Dale, Texas and attends Weatherford High School for their RDSPD. Juliahna has big dreams after graduation in May 2019. She is still deciding if she will attend Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf or Austin Community College. Her dream career is to become a Deaf education teacher and specialize in either math or Special Education. Juliahna is involved in various clubs and organizations on campus. She is the GSA secretary, she is a published author for the GrassBurr (WHS newspaper), and she is also a part of RooCrew. She has volunteered to help with the Outreach Club and helps at Bluff Dale school events. She placed 4th in the Optimist Communication Contest for the Deaf/HH the last two years and is determined to place higher this year.

Juliahna is a self-admitted feminist and has a passion for fighting for social justice and equality for racial and gender issues. Her teachers and friends would describe her as honest, caring, patient, strong, independent, friendly, and confident. She has become a leader in the Deaf Education program and has taken the younger students under her wing to help them through their first few years of high school.

We will be sad to see Juliahna leave our program but we are looking forward to watching all of the beautiful things she will do after graduation.

Sad to Lose a Good Friend of the Brazos River RDSPD, Tony Blauvelt

Tony Blauvelt and Bill Cummins come every year to the BRRDSPD Family Meeting in February with an enthusiastic presentation about the annual Lions Camp. They bring pre-filled applications and information about the free bus ride, picnic, and of course information about the amazing camp experience they wanted for all the kids. We are terribly saddened by the sudden, unexpected passing of Tony Blauvelt on January 6th, 2019. This generous and heartfelt man loved making sure as many kids could get to Lions Camp as possible. He was compassionate and giving of his time to support the kids and the mission he strongly believed in. The Brazos River RDSPD will terribly miss Tony Blauvelt.

Regional Day School Program for the Deaf - Peer Review February 26-28th

We are excited to have the Peer Review Team come to the Brazos River RDSPD to critique our program. This will be a wonderful opportunity to share what we are doing right and learn ways to continue to improve. We will be sending home a questionnaire for you to fill out about your perceptions of the Brazos River RDSPD. Thank you for giving them your feedback.
