The Weekly Update #12
From the Desk of Ms. Hicks
Second Marking Period
We are so excited to begin the second quarter and begin our new Bates Block schedule with even more club choices. The new Bates Block schedule has been adjusted to help students make the best choice for their academic success.
Students will report to a specific class during the beginning of Bates Block each day. If a student has a 75% or higher and no missing assignments, that student will be released to their club option. If the student has a 74% or below or have missing assignments, that student will stay with that teacher to have more time to access learning and complete missing work.
Students selected their club choices and created a schedule that will stay in the front of their binder. A sample of the student created schedule is below. Club choices will remain in place for the entire 2nd quarter. New club options and choices will be offered for 3rd quarter.
With the new Bates Block schedule comes a new bell schedule. Please see the copy of the new bell schedule below.

Lost and Found
Please have your students look through our lost and found during their lunch periods. We have accumulated many items. We have attached some pictures of the items left behind. Anything that is not claimed by 11/18 will be donated.
Is your student not feeling well? Don't forget to fill out the absence note!

Health Room News
We are seeing an uptick in students presenting with flu like symptoms to our health room. Please be aware that AACPS is following the guidance of the AACo Department of Health such that anyone reporting to the health room with flu like symptoms (which includes Covid like symptoms) will be sent home.
Please conduct a quick check with your child each morning before sending them to school to ensure that they are not experiencing any flu like symptoms. Any child who reports to the health room complaining of any flu like symptoms must have someone pick them up.
SYMPTOMS: Symptoms can range from muscle or body aches to fever, chills, and trouble breathing. Click here for a list of symptoms and more guidance from the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of an infectious illness such as COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), gastrointestinal infections, or any other serious illness should remain home from school or work until their symptoms improve and they are fever-free without the aid of medication for at least 24 hours. They do not need a negative COVID-19 test to return to school or work.
