Social-Emotional Learning Resources for Families
SEL Weekly Activities/Lessons: May 25th - 29th
Core Competency #3 - Social Awareness
Definition: Showing understanding and empathy for others.
Skills included:
- Perspective-taking
- Empathy
- Appreciating diversity
- Respect for others
All of the above skill-sets may look different in individual children, depending on age, maturity, potential disabilities, & opportunities for growth etc. Through the SEL activities and lessons we hope your child will begin/continue to gain the ability to accurately identify the feelings/perspectives of others and then show compassion by saying and doing something to help others.
SEL Lesson Social Awareness
Empathy is the ability to put yourself in somebody else's shoes.
The Second Step Program's definition of empathy is "feel what somebody else is feeling." When you feel empathy for someone, you can show them you care. You can show you care but saying something kind or doing something helpful.
Richland School District's K-5 Social Skills Curriculum
Both the empathy and emotion management units have lessons about identifying emotions.
