MESSAGE FROM WALTER FITZPATRICK
The temperature has certainly dropped, making it a little colder on the Kerby playground. With the change in weather, colds and flu make an appearance. The difficult thing for many families is the symptoms of a cold or flu are very similar to that of Covid.
When symptoms such as a runny nose, a cough, body aches appear, please keep your child home. We would rather be extra cautious in these situations. Please keep your child home and monitor their symptoms. If your child displays these symptoms and you are unsure whether the child needs to test for covid, please do not hesitate to call the office. The Kerby office is willing to have these conversations so we can keep everyone safe.
In the few instances where Kerby had a covid case, we were asked about close contact and how we determine it. In dealing with any Covid cases, the Wayne County Health Department guidelines are the ones we most follow. When determining close contact, we look at an indoor setting only. The process begins by identifying whether those involved are vaccinated or unvaccinated. Then, we must determine the distance between the infected person and others. We also must determine how long the infected person was next to the close contacts and whether a mask was being worn by all parties. Those factors lead us to a course of action. We hope this helps. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

UPDATED COVID INFORMATION
Students need to bring to the office or email sicklel@gpschools.org a doctor's note or a negative Covid test before the student can return to school if they are excluded from school because they have two or more symptoms that are outlined on the Covid-19 Screening Tool for Families.
GPPSS is not allowing students to use at-home covid tests to prove their negative covid result at this time. When students need to test, they can test at the school when they were exposed to Covid in school or at a healthcare facility (doctor's office, CVS, Walgreens, etc...) when they are exposed outside of school.
Please refer to the GPPSS UPDATE from yesterday for more detailed COVID UPDATES.
