School Based Health Clinic Opened Sept. 2, 2021, at SM West
A school-based health clinic for all SMSD students and their siblings (3 to 20 years old) will open Thursday, September 2 at SM West High School, 8800 W. 85th St.
The clinic will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays (except when school is not in session) and will be located across from the nurse’s office.
Health Partnership Clinic (HPC) and the Shawnee Mission School District are partnering to provide access to primary and preventative health care, chronic disease management, mental health services, and dental care to district students and their siblings.

Services will include:
- Physical exams
- Sports physicals
- Immunizations, including vaccines for COVID-19
- COVID testing
- Age-appropriate health screenings
- Preventative education
- Referrals to specialty services
- Sick visits
- Management of acute and chronic problems and mental health services
- Dental Care including screenings, fluorides, and restorative care
Most insurance plans are accepted, including KanCare/Medicaid. As a community health center, HPC offers a sliding-fee discount program which is based on income and household size. Fees are waived for students experiencing homelessness. Free Medicaid and Marketplace insurance enrollment will also be available.
Giving kids the “write stuff” makes them better readers.
Writing directly benefits students' reading skills. Having your child spend small moments each week reading and writing will have a positive impact.
2. Have your child write about their weekend, about a favorite memory, a letter to a family member, or whatever they feel like writing about.

What will we be learning about this week?
Writing-Students will learn how to write an expository piece about earthquakes and learn how to write a strong "snapshot" introduction.
Math-We will continue working in Module 1: Place Value. This week students will be solving multi-digit addition and subtraction word problems.
Social Studies-We will be travelling to the Northeast part of the United States and learn all about the geography of this region. Round two of Chiefs Geography will take place on Thursday.
