Help us raise funds for our school in a simple way just by filling up your gas tank.
The Bull Market BP Gas promotion event occurred for the first time last year and York ES received a check for over $600 for just getting gas at the pump with the York logo! It's a friendly competition between York and Hilburn! Whichever school sells the most gas from their pump will get an extra $200 from BM. It's a win, win!! Head to the BP gas station located at 6712 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC.
Look for a flyer to come home shortly via Tuesday folders. The promotion will run the entire month of April and if the BM can get 100 likes to their FB page, they will double the amount given, per gallon! Last year they brought "Ringo the Bull" to school to present the check. Let's see what we can accomplish this year!

Thank you to all who joined us for the STEM Expo! WOAH! We had such a good time!! Thank you for being patient as you waited in the lines to get in and then to get to the vendors! The volunteers were raving about how much fun they had at the Expo! We hope you felt the same! We had around 190 students from school, right around 44% of our population and several visitors from around the community! The word is getting out about how cool our school is!!! Once the CW 22 goes live with our link, I'll pass it along!

YES Curriculum Corner
Grades 3-5 End of Grade Tests (EOGs) will be here before we know it!
2017 York ES EOG Testing Dates
Wednesday May 31st - Grades 3-5 Reading EOG
Thursday June 1st - Grades 3-5 Math EOG
Friday June 2nd - 5th grade only Science EOG
Makeup testing will continue as needed should students be absent.
Please be sure that your child gets a good night's rest and observes a normal bedtime routine. In the morning, be sure to have your child eat a typical breakfast so they have the energy needed (think protein) to do their best on the test. If your child wears glasses, please be sure they have them for testing - otherwise we have to postpone their testing for that day until they have their glasses with them.
EOG Proctors!
We are in need of YOUR help! Each testing session needs to have a test administrator (York Certified Staff/Teacher) as well as a proctor. The job of the proctor is to be an observer as students test. This helps the test administrator have another set of eyes as students are testing. Should the proctor notice an irregularity, they can notify the test administrator who will manage the situation/need.
If you have a job that allows you to use volunteers hours, this is the time to cash in those hours. It takes a village to successfully complete EOG testing and we need ALL the helpers we can get. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our testing coordinator, Sydney Sherry, to let her know. Her email is ssherry@wcpss.net or you may call the school (919-881-4960) to leave her a message with your contact information. Please be sure you are an approved WCPSS volunteer - if you haven't completed this process, please do so by coming to school and signing up.
Even if you can only volunteer 1 day, it is a tremendous help!
Thank you in advance for supporting our school!

Meet Mrs. Spencer!
Abby Spencer is York Elementary's School Counselor. She has been with the York Family for 6 years. In her free time she enjoys playing with her 1 year old son, shopping on Amazon Prime, and spending time with her family. Something you might find interesting about Mrs. Spencer is that she lived in Finland with her family during her junior year of high school. What Mrs. Spencer likes best about York Elementary is that it has a small community feel.
Be sure to say hello next time you see her on campus!
