MES Families-

What a great first few weeks of school! We have spent the first weeks building relationships with students, doing team building activities in classrooms and establishing clear routines and expectations throughout our building-all tied to our Core Values. We have seen students growing already! Lots of opportunities for you to learn about MES, our curriculum and programs and to get involved in the month of September. We hope to see you around the district!

Tribe Tickets-

This year at MES, students can earn Tribe Tickets. These, unlike Wampans from years past, are hard to earn. These require a student going above and beyond what is expected of them at school and exemplifying our Core Values. Students bring these tickets with them to lunch and can choose from a popsicle, ice cream, MES Tribe bracelet or a t-shirt. Each staff teacher is given 5 of these to hand out for the month. Congratulations to these students who have earned a Tribe Ticket for the Month of August:

Mascoutah School District Goals for 22-23-

Mascoutah Elementary School is committed to ensuring excellence in learning by engaging Every Student, Every Day. As a part of that mission, our district goal is to raise achievement in literacy and math learning by 5% as measured by our end-of-the-year IAR scores for 2022-2023.

To assess progress throughout the year, our students take a benchmark assessments. Our staff, parents, and other stakeholders will use this important data to guide learners' proficiency growth, forecast performance on state tests, and optimize student progress. We are wrapping up our benchmark testing this week.

Thank you for your support in our assessment efforts. We are very excited to see our students demonstrate their academic excellence and proficiency.

Grandparent Breakfasts at MES-

We are excited to welcome grandparents back in the building during the month of September. Please see the dates for each grade level below. Here a few important items to note about Grandparent's Breakfast-

-Please do not have grandparents arrive until 8:30 AM or after. Students can arrive at their normal time and by their normal transportation to school. Students will go to class when they arrive just like normal. We still have to run a normal front circle drop off before all the grandparents arrive at school. Parking is in the front circle on both sides after 8:30 AM as well as in the parking lots and side streets.

-All grandparents need to enter through the front doors to pick up a name tag. Name tags will only be made for those that return the RSVP with their name and information. If we do not get a returned slip for a grandparent and they show up for breakfast, they will have to wait in line at the office with their driver's license and wait patiently while their license is scanned and a name tag printed. It will be much quicker and smoother if the RSVP form is returned in advance so their name tag can be printed before they arrive.

-Once Grandparents enter the building and have a name tag, we will direct them to one of our gymnasiums. We will do announcements as usual at 8:35 and then ask that grade level to please walk to the gym to find their special guest. Students will enter the gym, find their grandparent and then walk them to breakfast in the cafeteria. Once they finish eating and clean up their breakfast, students can walk their grandparent down to their classroom to meet their teacher. Some classrooms may plan an activity at this time while others may not. I leave that up to the teacher. Most grandparents will be out of the building by 9:30 AM.

-If a child does not have a grandparent in the area or living, they may bring a "special guest" in place of the grandparent.
