Cedar Grove Friday Flash
June 5, 2020
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
We are pleased to announce that Cedar Grove has re-certified as a Maryland Green School! Congratulations to the students and staff for working together to achieve our goal of preserving the health of our environment. We are so proud of your efforts!
Earlier this week, teachers have been working on closing their rooms for the summer. Part of that work included bagging and labeling students' personal belongings that were left behind when schools were closed. Parents will have an opportunity to pick up their child's personal items. We will communicate the day(s) and hours of curbside pick up only with those parents who have items for pick up, which will likely be the week of June 15. We will be following strict county, state, and CDC guidelines for this process. We hope to have this information out to our families soon.
As this year is quickly coming to an end, we are looking ahead to the 2020-2021 school year. There are still very many questions and unknowns concerning what next year will look like, but our school leadership team and staff have made some decisions regarding student articulation into classes for the fall. Typically, students are reorganized and placed into classrooms based upon a variety of data points. Since we have lost part of marking period three and all of marking period four due to school closings, we will move students together as a class cohort to the next grade level to provide them with that familiar and stable peer group. A few students may move to another group for the coming year so we can better meet their individual needs. Teachers or other staff will discuss any such moves with parents prior to them occurring.
We are sad to say goodbye to some of our staff members who are moving to other positions within the county: Carol Blankenship, ASD paraeducator, John Gillenwater, Instrumental Music teacher, Mari Haynes, 3rd grade teacher, Mike Moxley, 5th grade teacher, and Nicole Saltzman, academic support teacher. Please join us in wishing them well as they continue on their next journey.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Yearbook Deadline Extended to June 10!
Yearbooks are still available for purchase and the deadline to order has been extended to June 10. Please see the directions below to place an order:
- This year, yearbooks can be purchased on-line only. Order your 2019-2020 yearbook now to guarantee price and delivery! Please follow these online ordering instructions carefully!
- Payments for the yearbooks this year would be by credit card only.
- Pre-ordered yearbooks will be mailed to individual homes.
Because of the delays with the ordering process, delivery of the yearbooks is likely anticipated in July. However, we will provide updates if we anticipate faster or longer delivery once more information becomes available. This year we also have a digital yearbook download included with your purchase (more details will be forwarded later).
There will be very few additional book copies ordered this year, and those won’t be available for pick up until after school re-opens. In addition, as usual, the price for the copies that have not been pre-ordered will be higher than the pre-order price. Because of that, don't wait, and GET YOUR COPY TODAY!
If you have any questions, please send them to the following email: cgesyearbooksales@gmail.com
Also, please email the above-mentioned account with your order number, name, and address that should be used to mail the yearbook.
Update on KidsKreations Art Fundraiser!
Hi Cedar Grove Artists,
Thank you for all the students who participated in the KidsKreations art fundraiser this year! I wanted to give an update on the orders that were placed. The school closure has caused an unexpected delay, but the orders will be arriving soon at our school! Students who placed an order will be able to pick up their orders from school starting June 1st. You may stop by the school to pick up the orders on Mondays from 9 AM-12 PM.

Kindergarten Orientation
From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Our Media Specialist
It's here! Our fabulous summer reading program, which is integrated with the Montgomery County Public Library Program! We are introducing the summer reading program to our students in the coming week, starting with an introductory video. However, the Google Slide Deck shown in the video is loaded with live links and all kinds of treasures, so we are also making that available to you as a working resource for your child's summer reading! All this information, including incoming 6th grade info, is also available on our Summer Reading page, linked to the Home page. And of course, our Summer Media Monthly will be updated throughout the summer as we receive more information important to your child's reading and tech experiences.
From Mr. Jansson, PE Teacher
Hi Everyone,
It's hard to believe it's the end of the school year! It's been a crazy year, but I want to tell you how proud I am of each and every one of you. You and your families have worked very hard through a challenging time. Online learning was new for all of us. You all did it with much success!!!
Patrols, I know you have a lot questions about what to do with your belt and badges. Look for an email explaining the MCPS process from Mr. Derby. As far as picking patrols for next year, we are going to hold off until we see what the beginning of the school year will look like.
Now for the hard part. Saying good bye. For some of you, I will be lucky enough to see you when school starts back, but for others, you will be moving on to middle school. This group means a lot to me because my son, CJ, was your classmate from kindergarten through 2nd grade. Mr. Bishop and I spent 3 years being a cub scout leader for some of you. I wish you all continued success as you continue your journey through middle and high school.
I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer. Remember to stay active and healthy. Most important - remember KINDNESS MATTERS! Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
Mr. Jansson
