Who was the first?
In 1892, Sir Francis Galton was the first to show how fingerprints could be used to identify individuals. He wrote a book identifying the individuality and uniqueness of fingerprints.

In 1901 Sir Edward Henry developed the first system of classifying fingerprints.
In 1908, The first official fingerprint card was developed.
In 1911, Fingerprints were accepted by the US courts as a reliable means of Identification.
In 1911, Thomas Jennings was the first person convicted of murder in the United States based on fingerprint evidence.
In 1980, the first computer data base of fingerprints was developed, which is called the Automated Fingerprint Identification System.
