Kia ora Tātou

As I sit here this morning and there is still darkness all around, I can hear our staff around the school preparing for our Matariki Breakfast. What a team they are! So willing and passionate about our akonga and their learning. We are so excited for you all to arrive and for us to be able to reconnect in this way while remembering those that have passed and those that can not be with us here today.

This is a day of new beginnings and just of being in the moment together. We all hope you enjoy the chance to celebrate Matariki with us, during the weekend or even throughout the whole month of Matariki.

Stay safe, stay strong

This week, our EPro8 teams competed at St Pauls Collegiate, Hamilton in the Regional Finals of EPRo8. It is an incredible achievement already for our teams to have won through to these final competitions.

Our Year 7/8 team of Gaebriel Gamble, Britney Madden, Justin Andrew and Christiaan Kuhn travelled with Mrs Meyler to compete on Monday afternoon. This team of budding young inventors competed well and worked diligently on the task at hand against some very tough opponents. Well done team, you represented Stanley Avenue well and we are very proud of your achievements.

On Tuesday morning, our Year 5/6 team travelled with Mrs Gamble to St Pauls to have their turn at the challenges. On the way over this team talked about communication being the key, and how reading and re-reading the instructions would be really important if they were to complete the task. Well...they were right. Mrs Gamble said their teamwork was amazing and their use of everyone in the team's strengths was the key to them completing the task of making an electric drum kit...and ended in the ultimate success. GRAND CHAMPIONS!!!!

Check out the trophy below! We could not be prouder of this incredible group of young people and their desire to solve problems and think outside the box. Congratulations Team.

A huge thank you to Mrs Harrison, who has mentored these students and many others. Her passion for all things robotic and IT has definitely rubbed off and it is wonderful to see the enthusiasm that is building for these competitions

A great example of Stanley Ave kids 'Striving to Succeed"

Keep an eye out next week for video footage of the competition.

2022 Stanley Ave Matariki Breakfast

Wow....what a beautiful morning to come together and celebrate Matariki. It was awesome to see so many smiley faces this morning as we braved the crisp winter morning to watch and listen to a beautiful Waiata from Team Ruru and Team Tui and enjoy a fabulous breakfast together. Yummy hot Milo and Marshmallows followed by Cereals and Fruit or Spaghetti and Baked Beans, Sausages and then topped off with a magnificent plate of waffles...and cream. or should I say cream and waffles, Mrs Roskam! All whilst enjoying the company of around 380 of our school family. We are very thankful for all our helpers, sponsors and donations. Without you all, our intimate Matariki breakfast for 380, would not happen!!! Please keep an eye out in next weeks newsletter for more details and photos.
