Great Blue Herons are common in Ohio and can be found in fresh water habitats. Mostly all there nests are found by a water source. Herons generally build there nests near other Herons in a colony called a heronry or a rookery. The size of the rookery depends on the space. You can find natural rookeries in Cuyahoga Vally national park. They get protective of there nests if they fill threatened and have bin known to stabbing with there beak in order to protect their young.
