Accomplishments/Achievements
- Married to the Holy Roman Emperor Henry V
- Nominated as the heir to the throne of England after her brother's death
- Was captured and escaped from Devizes
- Was captured again and was held in Oxford Castle, also escaped
- The throne was wrongfully taken away from her, when Stephen of Blois said his uncle "changed his mind" on his deathbed
- 'The Anarchy' aka the period of civil war between Matilda and Stephen lasted for 19 years. Since this was the 1100's, people were not ready to have Matilda take charge, since she was a lady, they trusted Stephen's claim to the throne.
- Matilda ended up getting the throne in a different way, her son Henry II (through the Treat of Westminster) was crowned king. King Henry II is the first of the Plantagenet line of kings.
- Without Matilda, there wouldn't have been King Henry II!
Character Traits
- Known to have been proud of her accomplishments, and being a perfectionist.
- Where she lacked in courage, she made up in raising the future King of England
- She did not give up, and always fought until she couldn't.
