20 Sycamore Students Earn Perfect ACT Score

Big picture

We are so proud to announce that 20 Sycamore High School students have achieved perfect scores on the ACT Exam, the most in school history. Less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn a 36. In addition, 33 students were just one point off from achieving a perfect score. See a full list of the students who achieved such a remarkable accomplishment.

Celebrate Excellence Educator of the Year

Sycamore's 2018-2019 Celebrate Excellence Educator of the Year Pete Tanaka was recognized at the Hamilton County Education Foundation's annual Celebrate Excellence breakfast on May 3.

Mr. Tanaka has served Sycamore Junior High for more than two decades, teaching math in a unique and creative way that really engages students. Students consistently say he is the best teacher they have ever had. His enthusiasm for math and desire to help each individual student succeed, often mean putting in extra hours outside of the school day to help current and former students. A parent of one of his students put it best, “His goal always seems to be to get the most out of every student, no matter what effort is required."

Gov. DeWine Hosts Mental Health Roundtable

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Recently, a group of Sycamore High School students sat down with Governor Mike DeWine for a roundtable on mental health.

Last Chance To Take Mental Health Surveys

Sycamore Community Schools continues to engage with students, families, and staff about the growing social and emotional needs of our students and staff. The addition of our school-based therapists through Cincinnati Children’s Hospital was our first step in supporting those student needs. We are proud to announce that beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, every school will be staffed with a school-based therapist. Having a mental health partner allows access to treatment for the students who need it, with greater accessibility.

District administrators have initiated the process of developing a comprehensive strategic plan to identify the mental health needs of our students, families, and staff. We have engaged with 1N5, a local nonprofit organization is committed to stopping the stigma and starting the conversation by increasing awareness and education about mental health.

Students in grades 7-12 and families received voluntary survey developed by 1N5 and the district to drive our needs assessment during the week of April 29. While your participation is not mandatory, your honest and open feedback will be crucial in helping us move forward with the proper plans. All of your responses will be kept confidential. Staff also received a similar voluntary survey. Thank you for your responses!

Sycamore Receives Security Grant

Sycamore Community Schools has been awarded a $40,000 grant to enhance safety and security.

The district will receive a School Safety and Security Grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to continue upgrading our security camera system.

Currently, all of the district’s buildings are equipped with security cameras. The new system will give the district and local law enforcement better access control. The goal is to have all of the buildings upgraded before the 2019-2020 school year.
