Excellence In All We Do.

Social-Emotional Learning Tidbit of the Week -
If you've been to Capturing Kids Hearts, they suggest starting each class with Good Things.
It is highly recommended that you have a social contract in place prior to starting this practice to help ensure students are clear on expectations for how to treat each other as they share.
It's just 2-5 minutes at the beginning of class, after the warm-up and before your main instruction begins.
This helps sets a positive tone for the class and teaches the emotional skill of positive thinking.
STEPS:
1. Build a social contract (the beginning of the semester is a great time to do this!).
2. Model how to share something positive with the class.
3. Set a timer for 3-5 minutes.
4. Call on different students throughout the week.
5. Following each share, have students either ask a question or make a comment (promotes active listening).
6. Applause after each response to show how to be happy for others.
This is a great way to build relationships with your students and among your students and model positive thinking and appropriate social skills!

Staffing Change
Positive Affirmations for students and staff!
I can not emphasize this enough....
It is super easy to get into the rut of correcting others all day long in our job...
Did you know for a positive climate to exist in your classroom the ratio of positive to negative comments should be 7:1!!??
Make a point of highlighting the good things kids and your colleagues are doing. Stu and I would love to know about it, too so we could help highlight and affirm!
Positive referral form is in the works, but for now, just shoot us a quick email!
We need everyone helping with dress code...no hats, no noserings, no tummies/back showing, mid-thigh shorts. Together Everyone Achieves More. Thank you!
Details on Speaker on Campus This Week
There will be an assembly on Thursday, January 16 from 2:30 to 3:05 in the PAC for the student body. The focus will be on diversity inclusion and acceptance. In our very non-diverse high school, our students often have limited opportunities with this topic.
We need faculty to attend as well, so the message is heard by all and we have lots of supervision in the PAC.
Our guest speaker will be Dr. Octavious Bishop, formal UT and NFL football player, current pastor and college professor.
If you have any questions you would love to hear Dr. Bishop address, please let Stu know so he can get it to him in advance.
Curriculum documents need to be updated by January 30. There will be a curriculum update session to choose next Monday. Additionally, you can have time on the half day to update them.
Friday, January 24, is a 1/2 day
8:10 - 8:55 - 1st period
9:00 - 9:50 - 2nd period
10:45 - 11:30 - 4th period
We will meet in Coach Kassell's room from 1:30 - 2:00. After that time, if you have not updated your unit plans by that time, you will need to spend that time updating based on your nine weeks data and pacing. You can also use that time to update your Sped documentation.
Your reflection on your professional goals was due last Friday, January 12. If you haven't done that, please do so ASAP. It is in Strive in Eduphoria. This is a check on how well you are progressing towards meeting your goals so it doesn't sneak up on you in May!
Teacher Meetings with Counselors TODAY!
Reminder that every teacher who submits grades will need to meet with the counselors and Ms. Becker during the time you sign up for using the link below.
Oldies but goodies...
FIRST 15, LAST 15 MINUTES OF CLASS ARE A NO FLY ZONE. DON'T ALLOW STUDENTS TO LEAVE YOUR CLASS DURING THESE TIMES. FIRST 5, LAST 5 DURING ADVISORY.
Club or UIL Academic Sponsor?
Please add your meeting time to this schedule so we know who has what and when -
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zgVbittNBpzB1B96FC6iGsTBKkfMI9ro0ZT6RFNxn5Y/edit?usp=sharing
Students will need to have passes to leave advisory to go to a club. If we can't get this organized and we end up having a lot of students wandering the hallways, we will have to go back to clubs only on Fridays. :(
Read this- put in zeroes for missing work
Please be sure to enter zeroes as they happen. You will also notice that students are often quicker to turn in their late assignments when there is a zero as a placeholder instead of an X.
Of course, when they turn in the assignment late, you can change it (Stu wanted me to put that part in there in case you were confused).
Thank you!!!!
Does the re-do policy apply to nine weeks tests?
However, remember, they need to submit the re-do form within 2 days of receiving their posted grade.
That might mean you have to turn in an incomplete for them and then they have until the following Friday at 4:00 pm to update the grade.
Advisory Changes Protocol
If you would like to make a change to a student in your advisory, you need to send an email requesting the change to Mrs. Huerta and include the teacher who is the current advisory teacher of the student.
That way everyone is in the loop.
If you don't do it this way, Mrs. Huerta will send the email back to you!
check this out! Students must complete this form to retest/redo!
