If you are giving a presentation then you need to make sure that you are stood up straight, making eye contact with your audience and using appropriate hand gestures. All of these things will make your audience feel like you are engaging them and by doing this you will have their attention a lot quicker. You need toi make surte that you are presented smart aswell as people will often make assumptions on yourself on their first look at yourself. So if you go to do a presentation trying to sell a company something then who would you buy off, the man dressed in a tracksuit or the person in a suit?

Barriers Of Communication
General Communication
One of the most common forms of barriers for general communication is a lack of knowledge. This will often come up in your day today life if you start talking about a subject that you are passionate about and the person that you are talking to doesn't know much about what you are talking about this would be a lack of knowledge. It does not mean that they are lacking in overall knowledge, it just means that they have a lack of knowledge on the subject that you are discussing.
One way that you can look at overcoming this barrier is by toning down the use of jargon and slang for the subject. For example if you are talking about cars then you could be trying to talk to them about a bi turbo F32 coupe, but if you want the other person to understand then you need to just call it a BMW. All that you need to do is use less technical terms and if you start going into detail then watch their facial expressions and try and figure out if they are losing interest and if they do start to lose interest then you know that you need to tone down the terminology that you are using. One thing that you need to make sure when you do this is not to make it sound patronising as that will often anger the other person. You should be able to tell by their level of interest as to what they do and what they don't understand.
You need to bear in mind that this could happen to you just as much as it could happen to someone else. The best thing that you can do if this happens to you is to let the other person know what you are not one hundred percent sure about what it is that they are talking about. And more often than not you they will let you know what it is that they are talking about but in a manner that you will likely find easier to understand.
Interpersonal Communication
When you are talking to someone face to face one of the more common barriers that you will face is an emotional barrier. This is when someone doesn't really want to talk to you for whatever reason. It can be out of anger, sadness and a multitude of other emotions. In many cases when they are upset they have likely had something bad happen to them to make them like that and it sometimes can help asking what is wrong but you should be wary when doing this as it can make the situation worse.
When you need to overcome a barrier like this you need to try and talk to the person and get a good response from them. If they are upset then you should try to make happier than they are so that they can think about something that isn't what they are upset about. As soon as you have done this the chances are that you will be able to have a much easier conversation with them. If their issue is that they are angry for whatever reason then the best thing that you can do is give them some room for some time. As soon as you have done that you should talk to them to try and figure out why they are angry. Once you have found out and sorted why they are angry you will be able to have a proper conversation whether it’s at work or in your personal life.
If you are upset or angry at work. The best thing is just to let someone know. It happens to all of us at some point but if you let someone know that means that they will be able to cater for yourself in a much better manner if they know what it is that you are angry/upset by. It also fills an employers confidence that you are being honest with them.
Written Communication
One barrier for written communication is dyslexia. It is a common issue with people and it can come in multiple levels or stages. Dyslexia means that you have issues absorbing and processing information that you have read. It will often appear that the letters or the numbers are muddled up. You need to make sure that when they write to you that you disregard any spelling or grammar errors as they will find it harder to learn to spell compared to people without the disorder.
One of the best ways that you can overcome this issue is by sending them another text, email, letter, just to make sure that they have got everything okay and then make sure that they understand everything. If they have any issues understanding what you have sent them then there are a few ways that you can go about sorting it. One thing that you can do is you can send it over to them again and go through with them exactly what it is in person or if you are not at the same place that they are then you can call them. Another great thing that you can do is if this person will be working with you often, you could look into getting them a screen reader which will read the information off the screen. This way they can sort everything themselves without any additional help from yourself. What needs to be remembered is that people with this disorder may need help and you need to make sure that you understand their issue and are willing to help them.
If you suffer from dyslexia the best thing that you can do is let your employer know as soon as possible as it means that they will be able to have a sit down and a chat with yourself about how they can make life easier for you at work and it means that they will know if you have any special requirements that need catering for.
