Southridge Choir News
Congratulations to Ryan Hill, Courtney Jones and Katie Kendall on being selected to the 2015 Indiana All State Choir! They will perform during the month of January at the Indiana Music Educators Association Conference in Fort Wayne.
A VERY special thank you to the many choir parents, students and community members that helped make the annual choir yard sale such a success. Many thanks to the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation for letting us use Memorial Gym to sort and tag donated goods, Teen Outback for allowing us to have the yard sale on their lawn and Central Christian Church and Steinkamp’s for loaning us tables to use the day of the sale.
The Southridge High School choirs are busy preparing for the two upcoming Raider Revue performances on Sunday, October 19. This year’s theme is “British Invasion.” The Raider Revue shows will take place at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets will cost $5.00.
We are very grateful for the support shown during our annual choir cookie dough and photo book sale!! Those fund raiser items will be delivered sometime in early to mid-October.

COLLEGE GO WEEK
Each year Indiana celebrates “College Go Week.” This year it is the week of September 22 -26. To celebrate that week, the SHS homeroom teachers will be asked to talk to their students on Monday about the importance of high school preparation for college and what they, the teachers, did to prepare for their college experience. Tuesday will be “wear your favorite college sweatshirt day, “Wednesday will be “wear your favorite college hat day,” and Thursday will be dress for success day. On Friday in homeroom, each student will be given a how to prepare for college guide.

UPCOMING TESTS
PSAT
The practice SAT will be given here at SHS on Wednesday October 15. All sophomores will be taking the test as well as those juniors who paid the fee to re-take the test. The PSAT results will then be returned to SHS and the counselors will review the results with the students .
ASVAB
The ASVAB is the career interest inventory test that is administered, free of charge, by the military. This test will be given to all juniors on Thursday, October 23 here at SHS. The results of the test are meant to provide information about the student’s career aptitudes, which, in turn, can help determine a student’s future career goals.
RAIDER FCA
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, otherwise known as Raider FCA, started off with a bang this year. 126 students turned out for our kick-off meeting where they heard from their Executive Board members, learned what FCA is all about, and voted on a club t-shirt design.
A few weeks later, Jace Rasche, area director for Young Life, came to share a message with FCA members about their ability to be leaders and change the world through "lollipop moments". Raider FCA has great momentum and expects it to continue building for the rest of the school year!
KEY CLUB
We will also be selling Threads of Hope bracelets on Friday's at lunch to benefit victims of natural disasters in the Philippines. All bracelets are hand made and each dollar we collect goes to support local economies and families. Cost is $2 a piece or 3 for $5.
Recycle Club
The Raider Recycle Club is off and running! Our membership has grown considerably from last year, with 31 members now signed up. The members are broken up into small teams with a collective effort to gather and recycle plastic, cardboard, paper, and newspapers/magazines throughout the high school.
This group of students understands the commitment to be a part of something bigger than themselves! Their efforts make Southridge and the Huntingburg community a better place to be.
