Creating strong home school connections for student success!
20-21 School Year
We are excited for the first day of school on September 8, 2020. While we will be starting virtually for the first six weeks, we are working hard to make this a quality experience for our students. We truly miss our students and will miss the traditional excitement of the first day of school. There is nothing like standing at the front doors and greeting all the smiling faces or hugging all the nervous kinder parents. School will be different, but we will use all the resources and learning we have done this summer to make this a fantastic start to the school year. Below is information that hopefully will help you plan and get more clarity on what is next as we prepare to start the year.
Community Meeting
On August 20th @6:00 p.m., Lovett will host a live virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams. In this meeting we will review the daily schedule and give you a better sense of what instructional time will be live versus students working on their own. During the live meeting questions will need to be placed in the chat. We recognize that in this large setting getting questions answered right away can be challenging. The meeting moderator will consistently review the chat for questions and direct them to an administrator or respond on the chat. After the meeting we will review the chat and follow up with frequently asked questions. The link for the meeting will be sent via email, posted on our school website and the PTO website. The meeting will also be recorded and made available to anyone unable to attend.
Class Placement Notification
This year since we are unable to organize mass mailings, we will be notifying parents & students of their class placement electronically. We are still working to finalize schedules as the district has moved to a new student information system. Our goal for notifying families of teacher placement is August 27th-September 1st. The notifications will be sent from your child's teacher to the email you have on file with the school. The teacher will then follow up with a phone call to introduce themselves. We will continue to keep you updated if these timelines change.
Meet the Teacher and Student Materials Pick up
Meet the teacher will be a different style event this year to allow parents to get a better understanding of how things will work in their grade level. The format/dates for meet the teacher is below:

· At 5:30-6:20 parents will be invited into a general session for your child's grade level. You will receive a Microsoft TEAMS link for the general session.

· 6:30-7:00: Parents & students will be invited in virtual session with just their teacher. This is a meet and greet and time to get to know your child's teacher better. You will receive a Microsoft TEAMS link for this session

Technology Needs
On August 3rd, we submitted the responses to the technology survey that was sent out to families. For those that did not complete the survey, you received a call from Mrs. Perez our school secretary. Our goal was to verify the needs of our students so we can ensure all students have a device to fully participate in virtual Learning. I cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure your child has a device (I-pad, laptop, Chromebook, or desktop) to fully participate.
We had great response from families returning to Lovett. We know however that we did not get all our new to Lovett families as your information has not been updated in the new HISD student information system. The district is working on correctly this. In the meantime, we have tried to collect a list of emails for our new families to open communication with them. For our new families look for a link in your email with the technology survey. If you have already completed, please do not redo.
For any returning families that did not complete the survey, please email Tanya Perez at TPerez1@houstonisd.org. Please only do this if you did not complete the survey and you will need a device for your child.
Parent Introduction to Virtual Learning
HISD has created a parent introduction to virtual learning course. The course lessons include:
· Ways parents can support virtual learning at home
· Technology supports for virtual learning
· Supports for Special Populations
· Academic Policies for Virtual Learning
The course is now available, and I highly recommend all parents complete this course by September 4. Please see the link below.
