Dear Parents / Carers,
This week started with a visit from Yorkshire County Cricket club who spent the morning on Monday leading cricket sessions with each of our key stage two classes. A good time was had by all and every class was able to benefit from their expertise.
You will be aware that with high Covid rates locally we are having to keep our Covid measures in place for a while longer however we are starting to plan for events later in the year once some of these measures can be relaxed. Details of these events will be shared with pupils and parents once we are in a position to confirm dates and the ongoing safety of our pupils and staff as well as any visitors to school continues to dominate how we plan.
I am delighted to let you know that Mrs Young will be returning to school next week following her maternity leave. She will be working in Mercury class and is looking forward to getting stuck back into life in Early Years.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Karen Williams

Cricket
KS2 had a fabulous time practising their teamwork skills during our cricket session.
'That was so much fun! I love cricket!' Tom
'We worked really well as a team!' Freya
Thank you to Yorkshire Cricket Board for running the session. If your child would join a local cricket club then details can be found below, this is open to children aged 5 and upwards.
National Numeracy Day
Next Wednesday it is National Numeracy Day. This is an annual event run by 'National Numeracy', a charity whose aim is to support everyone to feel confident about using maths in their everyday life. If you would like any information about how to support your child's maths learning at home, or how to develop your own maths confidence, they have lots of resources and support on their website. This includes: The National Numeracy Challenge, a free-to-use website where adults can build their confidence with numbers. It includes a 10 min check of your skills and specific learning resources to help you learn the skills you need.
Gardening Request
We would be very grateful if anyone has any spare vegetable plants/seedlings (not seeds) you would like to donate to school for our vegetable garden and upcoming gardening club. If you do, please could you leave them outside the school office.
We're also in need of a hose pipe as the school one is passed it's best, so if you have any connections to a company or would like to donate a hose pipe please contact the school office.
Many thanks
National Survey of Children - The Big Ask
The new Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has launched The Big Ask – the largest ever consultation with children aged 4 to 17 in England. It aims to find out children’s concerns and aspirations about the future, so that we can put children at the heart of our country’s recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Staff Thank You's
If anyone would like to say thank you to or has any positive comments for a member of staff then please complete and submit the form below.
Within Friends, every little helps, we welcome help from parents, teachers and friends, anyone with any skills that could help in our efforts to support our school. In “normal” times, that may be be assisting at or organising an event, sorting out prizes, games, a bit of admin work, thinking about fundraising ideas or designing a poster. It may be that you want to join the committee as one of the helpers or perhaps even consider taking on one of the Committee positions and really get involved in the running of the charity.
With things being quiet due to COVID, it is a really good time to reform the committee and these are the following roles that will become vacant at the AGM, Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as spaces for being a general committee member. Any Nominations for Committee roles and volunteers would be appreciated.
Whether you have hours or simply 5 minutes, every little helps and is greatly appreciated. Without the support of the wider school community, Friends would not be able to raise the funds and purchase the resources and the nice, fun things our children.
If you would like to join Friends, please speak to one of the committee members, come along to our the next AGM meeting (via Zoom) or email us on friends@kf.starmat.uk. We also have a Facebook page that you can follow and use to message Friends on. We look forward to hearing from you.
Coming together is a beginning
