2022 October Issue

Greetings from Principal Rowell

Dear Kohler Families!

October is upon us and this is evident by the brisk mornings we are experiencing. Also, in WI you know it is fall for two reasons: leaves start to change colors and football season.

This time of year causes me to step back and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us as the leaves of the trees start to change colors. Every year, I find myself anticipating the change and am awestruck by the beautiful, bold fall colors. Fall is also a reminder of our humanness and the inevitable changes that will occur. My hope is that you and your families have a great fall season and are able to enjoy the little things in life that sometimes are overlooked.

At Kohler schools we continue to do great things. Our building is a busy place where students are engaged in learning and spending time with friends having fun and participating in clubs/activities/athletics. Our staff is hard at work providing high quality experiences for students. We know that this is a great recipe for success and are committed to ensuring we are playing a part in developing well rounded students.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the content in this newsletter as it contains useful information for families.

NEWS and UPDATES

Distinguished Guest Series

Thank you to the Kohler Foundation for bringing the Soweto Gospel Choir to Kohler Schools. The students enjoyed this performance.

Fall Musical

Our fall musical is Little Shop of Horrors and we wanted to share some information with you specific to the content of the musical. Please take a moment to review the flyer as it outlines the audience that this musical is appropriate for. Included is ticket and performance information.

Lock down Drill

On Thursday, October 13, 2022, during Advisory we will be reviewing and practicing the procedures for a lockdown drill. Safety is our priority and we practice these so that students are familiar with what each drill is and possible responses. We ask that you remind your child to take this lock down drill seriously and to follow the teachers instructions.

MS/HS Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, October 18 and Thursday, October 20. Families will be able to schedule these through their Family Skyward account starting on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Each conference is scheduled for a 10 minute timeframe.

PBIS Middle School

In our September issue we shared the MS goal for this quarter of being prepared and on time to class. The initial data collected (baseline) for the number of students not being prepared per period was 2 students.

We are happy to report that after week 3, our students are responding fairly well to the expectation of being on time and prepared for class and the average number is down from 2 students to 1.3 students. This number was as low as 1.1. Way to go MS students! Keep up the good work. One area we need some assistance and improvement is for our seventh grade students to come to PE classes prepared. Thanks to families for your support!

Play Time, Down Time, Family Time (PDF) - High School

In an effort to promote Bomber Pride, through Play Time, Down Time and Family Time, students will not receive a homework assignment on the specific days identified in the PDF Homework Practice flyer. October Bomber Athletic and Activities

The fall sports season is in full swing; believe it or not, in some sports, the fall season is coming to an end. The warmth of summer has turned into a brisk cool fall, where a jacket and blanket have been required at all recent outdoor athletic events. One thing that has heated up is Kohler athletics. Many great things are happening with Bomber sports right now. We have several teams ranked in the top 10 in the state and many teams that continue to battle hard every night. The postseason is right around the corner, and it will be exciting to see what all the athletic teams can do in the postseason!

Kohler Athletics Spotlights

The coaches nominated the following student-athletes for Kohler Athletic Student Spotlight.

Cross Country

Davis Behler was nominated by Coach Bourland. Last year Davis was a state qualifier for the 1600/3200. He is currently the cross-country team captain and has been a natural leader for the squad. The boy's cross country team is currently ranked #1 in the state and continues to get stronger daily! The girl’s cross country team continues to grow and recently got a huge victory against Sheboygan Lutheran! The future is bright for cross country as the middle school continues to do very well at every invite they compete in!

KLC Football

Coach Brasch nominated Shawn Lewis, Jalen Paul, and Noah Heinen. These seniors come to every game and give it their all for the KLC football team. The football team is two wins away from making yet another postseason. These three leaders will play a major role in leading the team in the final weeks of the football season! Congratulations to Noah Heinen for breaking the WIAA single-game reception record against Kiel with 23 receptions in a game!

The week was capped off with a memorable homecoming dance. The students were filled with enthusiasm and energy throughout the night.

Kohler Classic

Finally, a major thank you to the Kohler Athletic Bomber Booster Club for all their work in organizing the Kohler Classic. I heard many great things about this, and many were happy this was back. It was a perfect day for this event, and as a first-time participant, my family and I had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Booster club and Kohler athletics.

News from Nurse Nicole

The State of WI requires specific immunizations for entry into the public school system. Students are required to remain up to date based on their current grade specific immunizations. Our records indicate that many students are not up to date on their Tdap booster. This was required upon ENTRY into 6th grade. Many families should have received notice via email and a legal letter to update that their child is not compliant with state law. If you have received this, please update the booster as soon as possible. If you are unable to do so, please complete the immunization waiver to remain in compliance. State law requires this information to be on file for all public schools. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Nicole directly.
