Weekly News from Kimball Hill
Happy 2022!
Message from Mrs. LaCamera
Happy 2022 to all of our Kimball Hill Families!
It is hard to believe that 2021 has ended! While I certainly know it has been full of difficult firsts and a whole lot of change; we remain proud of the hard work, resilience and positivity that has helped us reach many goals and celebrate many successes! We are so excited to welcome back all students on Monday, January 10, 2022! On behalf of the Kimball Hill staff, we look forward to what new adventures 2022 brings to our students, staff and families!
A few helpful reminders for the New Year:
- Students who are 7 and above are eligible to use a maximum of 5 mental health days in January.
- District 15 is moving to a 3 tiered bus system and our school hours will change effective February 23, 2022 to 9:15am-3:55pm.
- Parking on Meadow Dr. is prohibited; as well as our front and side staff parking lot. Please refrain from moving our cones and help us maintain a safe and speedy arrival and dismissal.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership! I am appreciative for everything that you have been doing to support learning from home. I know that it can be hard with all the normal challenges of family life. The school has received a number of messages of thanks and support from so many of you over the past couple months, and these are all received very gratefully!
As always, please feel free to email or call me with any questions, concerns or needs.
Warmly,
Michelle LaCamera

Inclement Weather Plan
As the weather begins to become colder, we are writing to share District 15’s 2021-22 inclement weather plan with you. After much discussion, in the event we have significant inclement weather creating unsafe travel conditions or due to extreme cold, we will be utilizing an emergency weather day(s) which we have already built into the school calendar instead of shifting to virtual learning. Please visit the Emergency School Closure/Inclement Weather page of our website.
Should we need to call an emergency/inclement weather day due to hazardous weather conditions, we will notify families through email, text message, and phone calls via our Blackboard Communication system. The information will also be posted on our District and school websites, Facebook, Twitter, as well as the CCSD15 mobile app.
Outdoor Recess
We are running low on adult size coats so if anyone would like to donate a very gently used adult small or adult medium coat, we would gladly accept. We have plenty of child sizes left. Thank you for your consideration.
Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide playground supervision. If students are not following behavior expectations, a staff member will address the behavior with the student(s). Based on the behavior, the child may speak to an administrator.
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Warm weather: Students will be outside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is below 100 degrees. Students will be inside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is 100 degrees or above.
Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.
District 15 Moving Forward Plan: Beyond Just Boundaries
As part of the Moving 15 Forward initiative, the District has scheduled community night meetings at each of our schools. During these meetings, an overview of the proposal will be presented, and specifics on proposed changes to each school will be shared. Additional information will be shared as plans are finalized, but we wanted to send a Save the Date in hopes all interested families can add the date to their calendar.
