Coaches Quick 3 + 3
March 2021
End of Year Reminders
- Course End Dates: Please check course end dates to ensure you have left sufficient time for teacher grading and receipt of final grade reports (last day of school, graduation, college transcripts, NCAA eligibility, etc.). We highly recommend setting the end date TWO weeks prior to absolute "need" date. Remember...you always have access to the student's grade book in Genius for work that has been submitted and graded in Genius, but if the learner did not complete 100% of the coursework please review this screencast for options on seeing the final score with zeros factored in for work not completed. NOTE: If additional time is needed beyond the five months allowed in a course, this must be requested through the WVS office at wvshelpdesk@cesa9.org or 715-453-1953.
- Deadline: Student access to courses ENDS at 10:00 p.m. CST on the last day of their enrollment period.
- Passwords: Most unit and final exams are password protected. Please contact the online instructor a day or two ahead to ensure you receive the password in time. You can also check past communications in Genius to see if that password was emailed to you. Click here (p.6) for instructions on how to view communications in Genius. Or, feel free to contact us at wvshelpdesk@cesa9.org or 715-453-1953 for the password.
- Alumni Clean-up: If you provide the WVS office with your list of graduates, we will update their status so they will no longer appear on your student list.
- Current Enrollment Period: Our enrollment period is open until June 30th, 2021, with a start date of June 30th or earlier. Please remember this date for summer school options. See below for more information regarding summer school.
- WVS enrollments will begin on August 16th, 2021 for the 2021-22 school year.
Summer School In A Virtual Learning Environment
- The course fee is $290 for HS and MS courses. Credit Recovery (half-credit semester course) is $190. Students are given 20 weeks to complete their course(s).
- Before enrolling a student in a summer course, please ensure that there is a Coach/Mentor available to act as a liaison between the student and the WVS teacher.
- WVS strongly recommends that students enroll in no more than ONE semester course during the summer. In addition, Advanced Placement (AP) courses are not recommended for summer session due to the rigor involved.
- If your school wants to follow a "typical summer school schedule" and allow students a specific 6-8 week summer session for their online course...you can do that. WVS accepts enrollments through June 30th, so you can "design" the right number of weeks and dates for YOUR summer program. Please Note: Health and Personal Wellness and Fitness Fundamentals courses require a minimum of 12 weeks of fitness/health journals/logs.

2021 AP Exams
- WVS AP courses are approved by the College Board and will present the content needed to prepare students for either form of the 2020-2021 AP exam ("paper and pencil" or "digital").
- Students and coaches should check the AP Exam page and individual course exam pages for additional information. Note: College Board is indicating that this year's digital exams cannot be taken on Smartphones.
- Students can adjust the end date for their course in Buzz to be earlier than the end date entered by the local school. This will allow students to determine a pace where they can complete all the content as well as any exam review units prior to their AP test date. Please see the instructions below:
To set a Target End Date earlier than the final end date:
Click on Grades (bar chart icon) from your Course Card in Buzz or from the course menu in the upper left.
Look in the top tab bar and click on Settings.
Click on the calendar to pick a new end date. You may only adjust this date to be earlier than the date your school has set.

Buzz Tips
Students can see the "Retry allowed" icon and Feedback icon in several places and this document includes visuals of what is outlined below:
- Activity Stream tab - accessible on their Buzz homepage. They can sort by class and it will display the most recent activity such as submissions, grades, feedback, retries.
- To Do List - this can be accessed either on their Buzz homepage or within each course, as shown below. If the assignment's Due Date was prior to or during the next 5 days, it will display again in the To Do List area. If the Due Date is not until the next week or beyond, the assignment will not appear here yet.
- Quiz or assignment dropbox - If a Retry was allowed, the "Start" button in the upper left will now say "Retake" instead for quizzes. Similarly, for a dropbox the button in the bottom right will now say "Re-submit my work." Feedback is noted here too, if provided, and can be viewed by clicking on View Grade Details. Automatic feedback such as answers for quiz questions is visible through the "Grade Details" button > Questions. After clicking on View Grade Details, feedback can be seen. Automatic feedback such as answers for quiz questions is visible through View Grade Details > Questions tab.
- Grades screen - In each course, students can view all their submitted and upcoming graded assignments via their Grades screen. It will also include clickable links for their scores, so they can quickly pull up the quiz or assignment dropbox and view teacher feedback, score details, and etc.
Notifications
Students do not receive automatic notifications about a retry, but you can encourage them to set up generic grade/feedback notifications via their Buzz settings. They can receive a basic email or text notification when they receive a grade or feedback on any assignment.
In the dropdown user profile menu, select Settings. Under "Student Notifications," students can click "Email" and "Daily."
Other Reminders
- End Dates and Extensions: When students are enrolled in their courses, the course end date defaults out 20 weeks. However, WVS allows a full 5 months in a course. If we move a course end date out the full 5 months - that is not an extension - it is the time allowed per WVS policy. An extension is time given (30 days) after the full 5 months has passed. Click here for the WVS Extension Policy.
- Drop Requests: When placing drop requests, always select "Waiting Review" as the status. Any other option may result in the drop not being processed in a timely manner.
- March (and later) Enrollments: Because the system defaults out 20 weeks, enrollments going in now are defaulting to an end date in July. Additionally, as we move forward in the month(s)....the end dates will get later and later. Please keep this in mind when doing course requests. If there is a set end date you would like for your school, please reach out to the help desk for assistance.
