Hartford Happenings
April - May 2023
Fourth Quarter!
The fourth quarter is off to a great start! We still have work being done to the front office, we are hopeful everything will be completed by end of April. For now, please continue to walk in through the gate and then through the side door to head into the office. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.
Please remember school is not out just yet! Attendance and punctuality are just as important now as before. Let's get to school on time these last weeks of school.
3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade State Testing
State testing begins this week, please see the attached schedule. Let’s help our students do well by getting them to bed early and reminding them to try their best. Remember that OUR school, staff and students will be graded based on the results of these state test. We appreciate your continued support.
It is important that students are here for testing days. Please avoid making any appointments or pulling your child early from school on the dates below. Once a student starts a part of the test, they cannot leave school and then come back to make it up. Please make sure your students are getting a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast in the morning.

23/24 Kindergarten and PreK Enrollment
If you have a student that will be in Kindergarten or PreK for the 23/24 school year it is time to enroll!
Online enrollment is now available. For Open Enrollment you may apply now, also.
Kindergarten students must turn 5 years old on or before August 31, 2023. PreK students must turn 4 on or before August 31, 2023 and be fully toilet trained. If you have any questions, please call or email us!
Most of the district communication is done via the internet. We encourage all families to create an email and share that information with the school. Grades, emergency notification, school announcements and other important information is shared through Infinite Campus. Families are encouraged to set up an account. https://campus.cusd80.com/campus/services/createParentPortal.jsp
Uniforms
We are a uniform school. All students are required to wear a standard uniform on Monday-Thursday. On Fridays, students may wear a school spirit shirt or other school-related shirt. If you need assistance with uniforms, please see our parent liaison. We provide each student with one free uniform at the beginning of each year. SHIRT– red, white or solid navy blue collared shirt. PANTS/SHORTS/JUMPER– khaki or navy blue . On the first Friday of each month, students may pay $1 to have free dress (district dress code policies apply).
Reminder that hair color acceptable ranges are black, brown, blond and red. This can be found in the student handbook.
SHOES– close-toed shoes - Students must wear tennis shoes in order to participate in PE.
Lunch with your students
This Friday we are enjoying our Western Day lunch. Come join your student for lunch with your boots and cowboy hat.
Our last Lunch with parents for this year is May 5th.
Birthday Policy
Birthdays are special days for students and due to our participation in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation we will celebrate birthdays without food as part of the school celebration. Please do not send cupcakes or any other food items for birthdays. Not only will this eliminate many unhealthy treats, this decision has secondary benefits such as time taken from instruction for teachers to serve, find utensils, monitor and manage food. This will also eliminate concerns about allergies and other food restrictions. We will leave the hosting of birthday parties, cake, cupcakes, for each family to celebrate at home. On your child’s special day, students may bring a small token for their classmates, such as a pencil, eraser, gel pen, etc. to share with classmates (not required). Parents may also choose to purchase a book to donate to their classroom teacher in honor of their child’s birthday.
PTO
Our PTO works hard to raise funds for our school. Please consider getting involved in PTO. There are a variety of events throughout the year.
Together, we can make an even better school!
Student Drop off / Pick up
Please take time to review our student drop-off and pick-up policies. It is important that everyone is working together to keep our students safe. Please follow the directions of our duty teachers.
· Student car riders’ drop-off and pick-up is on the west side of school, off Sunset. Gate 5 - we ask that during drop off / pick up times drivers do not make left turns to make the flow of traffic go smoother.
· Bus and daycare pick-up and drop-off is on Monterrey. -
Walkers can use Gate 1 and 2 - Make sure to not park in the no drop off zone off Monterrey this is only Bus and Day care
· We ask that you not use the office to drop off and pick up your child. The office parking lot should only be used for late arrivers and those leaving before 2:45 pm for an appointment or for our volunteers/school events.
GATE 1 is not a parent drop off gate, please do not pull up to the gate and drop off. Please remember to be the example for your child and follow the expectations.
Vaccinations
REMINDER: Students 11 years and older will be required to have one dose of the Tdap vaccine if 5 years has passed since their last dose of a tetanus/diphtheria containing vaccine.
