Eagle Sightings March
Holly Wehner, Principal
Dear Eagle Families,
As we head into March, there are many changes around us. Flowers are suddenly popping up out of the ground, days are continuing to have more daylight, and frogs are singing! Along with these changes around us, we have more changes coming with protocols and mandates in schools. As our Superintendent, Fred Woods shared in his message last Friday, masks will no longer be required in schools beginning March 14. It will be an individual choice to remove the mask or wear one and all wishes will be respected. We are awaiting new K-12 guidance on mitigating measures from the State Department of Health by Tuesday, March 8. We will communicate changes as we are updated.
This month our Character Strong Theme is Responsibility. As I have been visiting classes, I have learned so much from students about their responsibilities at home, and who they affect (pets, family members, and more). Each class is working with this definition of Responsibility- To take action and understand how our choices affect ourselves, others and the world. The students have all been challenged to continue to help keep our school grounds clean, by making sure snack garbage gets into garbage cans. Ask your child how their choices affect themselves, others and the world around them. It is really fun to see them connect their positive actions to others!
As always, thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to have new updates and changes. Feel free to call or email with any questions or if you'd like to chat.
Thank you,
Holly Wehner
Beginning Monday, March 14, masks for students will NOT be required

Counselor's Corner March 2022
Congratulations to all students on an amazing Kindness Week! Students completed random acts of Kindness checklists, and then put their name in a large kindness heart in the lunchroom. We also made a kindness chain that wrapped around the entire lunchroom and Eagle hallway. Each paper link of the chain had a special message about kindness on it, written by students in the school. Let’s carry on the kindness every day!
This month in Second Step lessons students in 3-5 will continue with their safety lessons, learning strategies about being aware of situations that might be unsafe, and how to handle them. Students in K-2 are learning about skills for learning (how to ignore distractions, how to focus attention, how to calm strong emotions, etc.). We know that social emotional learning is so important, as important as any other subject! Please let me know if you have any questions, or ways we can be supporting your child!
Meanwhile…ask your child about “self talk”...using helpful self talk is a skill good for us all! Recognizing when self talk is negative or unhelpful, just noticing that, and reframing to more positive, helpful self talk. This can be hard to do at first, but is a skill kids can carry with them throughout their lives!
