Eagle Sightings March

Caspar van Haalen, Principal

Dear Eagle Families,

I hope this newsletter finds everyone, safe, healthy, and happy. My staff and I are certainly happy to have students from Kindergarten through 5th grade back on campus. Of course, we also continue to accommodate our teleschool students with rigorous education as well as social-emotional learning support.

The character traits for March are Cultivating Compassion and Building Community. Teachers will teach these traits explicitly as well as implicitly. You could contribute by discussing the traits at home, of course.

Because safety during the pandemic is paramount, we are doing what we have to in each grade to stay well within the parameters of delivering education in a safe and welcoming learning environment. When we exceed space limits, we adjust accordingly, which may include adding extra cohorts to keep class sizes safe.

Science, PE, Music, and Art are subjects that remain mostly online. It is important your children attend any and all virtual Google Classrooms. The curricula taught by our Specialists correlate not only with their own standards but also with cross-curricular standards in Reading, Writing, and Math. We want students to participate in each and every activity posted. Please help us help your children by making sure they attend fully engaged and ready to learn.

Conferences will take place in a couple of weeks. They are wonderful opportunities for you to connect with teachers and for students to showcase their academic and social-emotional growth. Your children’s teachers will contact you with more information.

While we do not allow visitors in classrooms, you are more than welcome to visit during outside recess. Just notify your child’s teacher in advance, and we’ll be happy to accommodate you.

As we are approaching Springtime, we have lots to look back and reflect on. I hope your reflections give you hope for better times to come. In the meantime, please know that we are grateful for your ongoing flexibility. Much has been, is, and will be asked of you. Concessions and compromises are prevalent now more than ever, and they are not always easy to process and accept. You have been nothing short of the most amazing and understanding parents I could ever imagine partnering with. I speak for my entire staff when I say that we are looking forward to each step - no matter how small - towards the pre-pandemic normalities of life, learning, teaching, and doing community.

As always, please do not hesitate to stop by and see me or contact me by phone or email. I am here to listen to what you have to say.

In educational partnership,

Caspar van Haalen
