PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - DONNA BURKE
Hello everyone,
We have had a great Red Ribbon Week. We were able to have three grade level assemblies to learn about the dangers of underage drinking, how alcohol impairs your judgement, and the dangers while driving under the influence. This was a great learning experience for our students.
Next week our students will examine their ACAP scores, iReady scores and current grades. From this information, the students will set goals based on individual growth. We want our students to begin to take ownership in their learning, and this is an important step. We need to continue to remind the students that this is "individual" growth and should not be a time to compare themselves with others.
We have a large number of students dropped off & picked up in carpool everyday. When students are dropped off, we use a single line and 7-8 cars can unload at one time. In the past few weeks the carline has been backed up because some students are exiting the line one car at a time. The more students that exit at a time, the faster the line will move.
In the afternoons, we are getting all of the cars loaded in 14-17 minutes. We are using 3 lines in order to be more efficient. The 3rd line was a little hard to see for a while. However, we have had the trees cut on the islands in the parking lot so this has made it easier to see. Students should continue to be attentive and watch for their car in the carline.
Thank you for your continued support and GO BUCS!

NEWS FROM MRS. SCHMITH, SCHOOL NURSE
If your child has ANY symptoms of illness, please keep him/her at home until you can determine the cause of the symptoms. If your child has symptoms and they have been tested for COVID-19, they must remain home until the COVID-19 test results are reported to you. Per the ADPH Back to School Guidance, if your child has symptoms and has a negative covid test result, the child should stay home for 10 days UNLESS a healthcare provider issues an alternate diagnosis. We don't need to know the specific diagnosis but we need to know there is a diagnosis other than COVID-19 to explain the symptoms. When students report to school with symptoms of illness and subsequently test positive for COVID-19, they have exposed countless others, creating multiple close contact individuals and additional COVID positive cases. Please refer to the ADPH Back to School Guidance pages numbered 13 and 15, or your personal Healthcare Professional if you have questions. https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/covid19/assets/cov-school-guidance-073021.pdf

Dates & reason of absence(s)
Handwritten Parent Signature
ANTICIPATED ABSENCE FORMS - If it is necessary for your student to be gone from school they must complete an Anticipated Absence Form and turn it in at least 3 days before the absence. Forms are also available in the 2nd floor office. There is a section on the form to be completed and signed by the parent, then the student fills in his schedule and obtains the signatures of his teachers, and submits it to the grade level administrator for final approval. Approval is based on the student's grade averages and current attendance record. Please note: if the student only plans to be gone for part of a day, he or she needs to enter the time of checkout, and get the signatures of only the teachers whose classes they will miss. Also, there is no need to obtain signatures from virtual teachers, (although they should be notified by email of the absence). Please be aware that failure to complete this form and turn it in will result in loss of credit for work missed and made up.
LUNCH ACCOUNTS
All students will have free breakfast and lunch during the 2021-2022 school year. While breakfast and lunch will be free, à la carte items such as extra snacks and beverages must be purchased. To replenish your child’s lunch account, please visit MySchoolBucks.com or send cash or check with your student to pay in the lunchroom or a secure drop box for lunch payments is located in the Front Lobby.
