Maundy Thursday
A service of tenebrae and lights.
What is a Tenebrae Service?
Maundy Thursday is that special occasion during Holy Week when Christians pause to remember more of the passion of Christ. It began the evening of His last supper with the disciples before going to the Garden of Gethsemane where he would be arrested.
This evening service is a Tenebrae service meaning, "shadows". Through the service of liturgy, hymns, Holy Communion, and the drama of Christ's passion, we are emotionally moved to the anguish and agony of Jesus. As we move from candle light into darkness, we feel the suffering; even to the chill of the stone rolled across the tomb.
