The Principal’s Corner
Greetings Oakleigh Families,
Welcome back to a new school year. We have great expectations for our students this year. As I meet with each class to review the Student Handbook, I remind students that I have two important jobs - keeping everyone safe, and keeping everyone learning. I welcome your input as we work together to constantly improve both safety and learning at Oakleigh Elementary. The School Progress Plan has been created for the 2016-2017 school year. If you would like to view a copy, please look for the sign up at our Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, 6:00-7:30. Mrs. Grace, Assistant Principal, will be asking for parent input on this night for topics on which parents would like to be more informed. I look forward to seeing you on September 13th.
Best regards,
Sharon Mason, Principal

SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS- JOIN THE PTA!!!
Hello Oakleigh Families,
My name is Jean White, President of the PTA for the 2016-17 school year. PTA may stand for Parent Teacher Association, but anyone can become a member. We are a group of people from different backgrounds coming together for a common cause - the students of Oakleigh Elementary. We support and advocate for our students by building strong relationships between the teachers, parents, and the school. We serve as a resource to everyone with our website, www.oakleighpta.org and our Facebook page, as we provide information regarding Family Events, volunteer training and opportunities, special education information, and so much more. I invite everyone to our monthly meetings held on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 5:30pm. Feel free to contact me with any questions at president@oakleighpta.org.

News From Mr.Mitchell
Hello All Parents/Guardians!
The 5th Grade Instrumental Music (Band and Orchestra) program is officially off to a great start. Here is important information and reminders:
The Instrumental Music program has now begun! A few of our students are still in need of crucial supplies. Specifically an instrument AND method book.
Band Method Book "Standard of Excellence" Enhanced Edition. Orchestra Method Book "Essential Elements 2000. These are great resources to review everything we are learning in class. I can purchase the method book for you and your child if you bring in $10.
If you are having any difficulty getting an instrument, let me know so I can help. I have only a handful of school instruments left.
Practice Charts were sent home over the past couple of days. Ask your child to see these. You must initial on the days that they practice. There are many helpful tricks and tips I have included to help with at home practice. Please encourage practicing at home! The not so good sounds will turn into good sounds only by practicing more!
Please review the pull out shcedule with your child to remind them to bring all materials to school.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email at bmitchell3@bcps.org! Have a great week and I look forward to more great music making with all of our young musicians!
