Weekly Cougar News
ConVal High School - December 17, 2021
Message From Principal McKillop
This time of the year is called the season of light and with good reason. With the marking of the winter solstice on Tuesday, our days will start to become a little longer with each passing, giving us more time to enjoy our friends and family, more time to celebrate the blessings big and small that come into our lives. Whether your light comes from a little more sunshine, the twinkle of a tree, or the smiles of loved ones, I hope it warms you.
I know many of our students are looking forward to getting out in the impending snow and enjoying some winter sports, and for those of you who prefer to enjoy the snow under a blanket with a good book, I hope you find time to do that too.
An important reminder below that I want to make sure our soon-to-be graduates don't miss: orders for caps and gowns are due no later than this Wednesday, December 22nd.
Congratulations are in order for our seven seniors who were accepted to Nashua Community College this week and to our band and choral members for the lovely programming they shared with our school community this week! These events have been points of light for me this week and have made me proud to be a part of Cougar Nation.
Since next week is a short week, this is my final newsletter of 2021. Once we return to school in January my newsletters on Fridays will resume.
Happy Holidays!
Best,
Heather

This unique program offers you the opportunity to become fluent in German through classes both here in the United States and through summer classes in Germany in preparation for studying for a STEM-related career; one of the many benefits is 4 FREE years of university in Germany!
This opportunity is FREE for ConVal students since ConVal has been selected as a Beacon for German Learning through the PASCH initiative. Who should consider this opportunity? Students who are already studying German, anyone in a STEM-related CTE program, and all freshmen. Email Cindi Hodgdon (chodgdon@conval.edu) for more information.

Annual Winter Concert
ConVal’s annual Winter Concert was performed on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, in the gymnasium. Under the joint direction of Brian Moore and Jim Wickham, students had prepared a festive program with diverse musical selections.
The songs that were performed by the Chamber Choir, Mixed A Cappella, Select Choir, and Concert Choir ranged from traditional vocal materials sung in Latin and German all the way to the 2020 Catalonian hymn “Cold December Flies Away” and Mariah Carey’s hit song “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Other selections included “Ave Rosa Sine Spinis,“ “O Magnum Mysterium,“ “Kling, Glöckchen,“ “O du fröhliche,” “Joy In The Morning,” “The Christmas Song,” “Take Me Home,” “Stopping By Woods,” “Autumn Gives Her Hand to Winter,” and more.
Instrumental pieces were performed by the Flex Band, Jazz Band, and Concert Band. Their selections included “Pacifica,“ “A Mad Russian’s Christmas,“ “Baba Yetu,“ “Byzantine Dances,” “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!,” “Fly Me To The Moon,” “Vehicle,” and “Winter Wonderland.”
As is tradition, the concert concluded with a Combined Ensemble rendition of a holiday song that invited audience participation.
