Ripley Central School Elementary
News and Updates for our RCS Families . . . . . 1/30/15
Throw...Way, Way, Way...Back Thursday in 4th Grade…to the 1700’s!
Students in 4th grade have been learning about Colonial America for several weeks. Now students have been given the task of coming up with a historically accurate character that they can write about for a class book. Students will be working on a historical narrative in which they describe a trade from Colonial America using details that they have collected as researchers. Check out these 4th graders drawing their characters, writing their historical narratives, and being really gritty! Ask a 4th grader in late March to see their class book as it will published and available at RCS for all to enjoy!
Kindergarten Partner Reading is here!
Partner reading has begun in kindergarten. Students must sit EEKK! (See the poem below about elbow to elbow, knee to knee). The book is in the middle and students must follow along as partners read! Kindergarteners are also preparing for Groundhog Day on February 2nd. Most kindergarten friends are excited for SPRING. The teachers are too!
First Graders Read EEKK too!
This week our first graders (pictured below) enjoyed their first official day of partner reading. Scholars are reading nonfiction texts. On our first day, we read about reptiles.
5th Grade Math
From our Early Explorers moving to music to 6th graders learning to play the guitar - there is always something fun going on in Music Class!
The Gritty Kitty Challenge
We may need readers for our Read Across America celebration on March 2, 2015. If you'd like to be considered as a reader, please let Sue Hinman know by emailing shinman@ripley.wnyric.org or call the school: 716 736-2631. We will need to know your contact information, what times you would be available to read, and what grades you would prefer. Mrs. Hinman will contact you no later than February 23rd if we are able to use you as a reader. Thanks!
Remember:
You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, To pick up a book and read with a child.
You're never too busy, too cool, or too hot, To pick up a book and share what you've got.
In schools and communities, Let's gather around, Let's pick up a book, Let's pass it around.
There are kids all around you, Kids who will need - Someone to hug, Someone to read.
Come join us March 2nd, Your own special way - And make this America's Read to Kids Day.
