Kickoff Event: Keynote speaker Rashad Norris Moment vs. Movement; Why We Can’t Wait

Rashad Norris is a community activist who works as the Director of Community Engagement at Highline Community College. In Rasha's presentation he will focus on the words of Dr. Kin and link them to current events to highlight the importance of his boldness, outright anger, and frustration over the progression of equity in our society as it relates to African Americans.

Service Project: Kayaking Clean Up with Puget SoundKeeper Alliance

With this service project you will be picking up litter around and on Lake Union. You will also learn how service is part f Dr. King's philosophy. Transportation will not be provided.

The Student Philanthropy Education Program (SPEP) invites you to converse with a panel of philanthropists from different industries who will share why they give back, how they make decisions about giving, and what philanthropy means to them.

Service Project: Threads and Treads

Saturday, Jan. 16th, 9am-12:30pm

Canyon Park Junior High School

Threads and Treads is part of the Northshore School District and provides low income families with free clothing. For this service project you will be sorting clothes and organizing them in stores. Limited transportation is available. Meet at the W on the UWB campus at 8:30am. Please contact kahliv@uw.edu for more information.

TEDxCascadia: Let's Talk About An Injustice by Bryan Stevenson

In the first session of the new TEDxCascadia series event, come watch Bryan Stevenson’s TED talk on the American justice system and the mass incarceration of the country’s black male population. Stevenson draws from his experiences as a human rights lawyer, as a black man growing up in America, and conversations with Rosa Parks. View the video and share in a discussion afterwards with your peers.
