Welcome to Our House "Where Character Matters"
Dear Botsford Families,
Every teacher knows reading is at the forefront of all we do the entire year, but March’s designation as National Reading Month provides opportunities to explore reading in whole new ways aimed at motivating students to read while having a bit of fun in the process.
In Michigan, schools all over the state plan literacy-related activities for what we call "March Is Reading Month." This month I will be sharing some activities that we are doing as a whole school and a few more that you might try at home with your own children. Hopefully, you will find one or two new ideas you want to try to make the month of reading a great celebration of all things books.
We set aside one official month of the year to celebrate the joy of reading. During the month of March you and your child will be encouraged to read together. We kicked off this special event on Monday, February 26th.
- Your child should have brought home a bright GREEN "Rockstar Reading Log" come home with your child this Monday. A new reading log will go home each Monday with your child. Work with your child to set a reading goal. 20 minutes per night is recommended but students are encouraged to read more than the minimum.
- Students who meet the reading level challenges will earn special prizes like tatoos, a pencil, a personalized guitar pick and rock star glasses. The top boy and girl reader from each class will be honored at our Jam Session scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, March 27th.
- The goals are KDG-1st grade =75 minutes per week, goal for grades 2-3 =100 minutes per week and the goal for grades 4-5 =125 minutes per week.
- We will be hosting an author visit on Monday, March 19th. Our special author is named Maria Dismondy. We will enjoy 2 assemblies and a special visit with our KinderCATS.
- We will enjoy special event Fridays during the month as well. Friday, March 9th we will celebrate "WWOW" Wonderful World of Words spirit day. Please have your child select a t shirt with lots of words on it to wear to school.
- Mark your calendar for our parent reading night event scheduled for Tuesday, March 27th.

Bus Loop and Parking Lot Safety
Our bus loop is meant for drop off and pick up only!
Cars should NEVER stop and wait in the bus loop. The loop is meant to be a safe drop off and pick up area but instead children are running through the loop to waiting vehicles and vehicles are not taking precautionary measures as they enter and exit the loop. Please find a parking spot and wait for your child. Do not ever ask your child to run over to your car, especially if it encourages them to run through the bus lane. We do not want to see anyone get hurt!
