January 2020

Welcome Back!

We are having a great first week back! We will finish up our first semester January 8th, and then dive right into second semester. Our character trait focus will be RESPECT. We will be sending out and posting this monthly newsletter to help share what is going on at our school. It will be posted on our webpage and sent out to families via email.

January Dates

January - BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH -- Thank you to our school board!

We had anticipated making our SNOW DAYS virtual instruction days to avoid MONDAY MAKE UP days. However, the chrome books we ordered back in JULY are still on back order. In order for us to use these snow days as virtual days, we were counting on having these devices.

Therefore -- Snow days will not be virtual instructional days. We do have time built into our calendar, so the first three snow days will not need to be made up. However, the 4th SNOW day and beyond will be made up on MONDAYS. You can consult the 2020-2021 school calendar to see the MONDAYS that are set aside as MAKE UP MONDAYS.

ENCORE -- Helping to bridge the gap

At the beginning of every school year we take time to assess the individual needs of students. We knew after missing an entire quarter of school in 2020, we would begin this year with a unique set of student needs. In our K-4 program we began ENCORE to provide the extra hands needed to assess all students and then begin a time of remediation and enrichment.

During first semester Mrs. Casteel and Mrs. Potter had special ENCORE classes on Mondays for 3rd and 4th graders. In K-2 we have had Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Powers working one on one and in small groups to help target the specific needs of students. As we collect data, we are pleased with the progress we are seeing in our students and believe this extra effort has made a huge impact on our students.

Reviewing the Wellness Plan

Thank you for the support you continue to give as we work to follow our wellness plan during these COVID days. Communication has been top-notch and we encourage you to call with questions and concerns. In the end, our ultimate goal is to have students here face to face as much as possible. We do not take lightly the decision to quarantine an individual or class. Thank you in advance for the support you have given us during this time. We are a blessed learning community.
