The Hunger Games
May the odds be EVER in your favor.
Summary
24 tributes, 2 from each of the 12 districts, battle to the death and only one victor comes out alive. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the two tributes from district 12. They have to travel through the streets of Panem to get to the Games. Katniss' advantage in the games is her instinct for hunting. She can shoot an animal straight in the eye with her bow and arrow in almost complete darkness. Peeta's advantage is his strength. He can throw a 100 pound bag of flower over his head. But Peeta doesn't plan on being the victor. His plan is to keep Katniss alive so that she can be the last one standing. Why? What will happen? Who will be the victor of the 74th Hunger Games? Read the book to find out how Katniss explains everything from her point of view.
Theme
A major theme of the Hunger Games is survival and inequality between the rich and poor. The whole point of the Hunger Games is to entertain the rich by making the poor fight to the death on television. I think I can't really relate survival to my life because I have never been in that sort of situation, but I can always relate to the inequality between the rich and the poor. I do not think that the rich people now would make the poor people fight to the death but sometimes they do treat them unfairly. I have been in neither of those situations, but I have seen it take place all around me. The poor can also fit in. All in all, the Hunger Games talks about such brutal actions that I don't see very frequently but they can always happen...
