In Case You Missed It:
We had a lot of materials returned on our drop off/pick up days. I really appreciate Karen and Brian Caldwell, Christina Reed, Emily Braren, Nurse Chris, Shannon Johnson, Izzy Taylor, Denise Green, Alex Rivera, Yanira Scott, Ashley Inman, Evan Roush, and Joanna Perkins for helping to do this safely. Katherine and Tina also went through lockers to throw out food/trash, bag up anything "of value" that may be wanted later by students, and retrieve any additional school property. There were many library books and a couple of musical instruments collected that way. The office staff has also made phone calls to families that have not returned laptops. At this time, we have approximately 30 computers still checked out to students. Shannon has disabled all that have not been returned. I think this exemplifies how teamwork makes the dreamwork!
Our custodians continue to get our building sanitized and sparkling clean. I am so impressed with their hard work and dedication to make SanLee safe and beautiful for us all. I look forward to the day when we can all be back in the building together again.
SanLee continues to be a food hub site on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This is manned and managed by LCS Child Nutrition and paid with federal grant money. It is my impression that this will continue throughout the summer. They are "closed" this week due to the holiday.
Front office staff and admin are in the building Monday - Thursday from 8:30-12:30. We are working remotely in the afternoons and Fridays. We are not allowing any guests in the building. Items needing to be dropped off or picked up are being left in a box right outside the front door. The district has adopted an online registration form for new students. Our phones are answered Monday - Friday 8:00-noon and 1:00-4:00.
New additions to our Stallion Family:
- Haley Yow is a May graduate of Meredith College will be teaching 6th grade ELA and Social Studies on the Dolphin Team. Haley is the first Stallion Alumni to come back and teach.
- Yanira Scott will be teaching 7th grade Social Studies position on the WCU team.Yanira has worked in many different capacities in LCS; Teacher Assistant/bus driver, School Resource Officer, data manager, and front office support.
- KT Staffaroni will join the H/PE team from a Montessori school in CO. She has also taught middle school in SC.
- Emily Harris will be joining the WCU team on 7th grade as a math teacher. Emily started her career at West Lee and has taught in Brunswick Co. All her experience has been in 7th grade.
- Melissa Stec will be teaching 6th grade science on the Tarheel Team. She is coming to us from BT Bullock where she's taught several grade levels in elementary and has discovered she loves working with the older kids and is excited to concentrate her planning in the area of science.
A recommendation for hire was made on Wednesday for the 7th grade ELA position to join the ECU Pirates. I will keep everyone updated.
*We are still looking for someone to join our hard working custodian team as an 11 month custodian/bus driver. Please let me know if you know someone that may be interested!
Click here for the revised LCS 2020-2021 calendar which has all staff starting on Monday, August 10 with a week of required workdays and students begin on Monday, August 17. Normally, I would be sending out a tentative schedule for meetings and trainings for the district and our school for August so everyone can begin to make plans. All this is on hold right now until we know what plan we will be on and what that will look like. Prepare your minds for things to be very different and not familiar. Middle school principals have requested guidance on 6th Grade Leadership Academy and are awaiting a decision. We know we cannot have anything face-to-face, but would like to have something virtual to help transition our newest Stallions to their new school family. I am aware that new teacher induction training is being held virtually this year and Dr. Perkins is planning our Stallion Boot Camp to also be held virtually. As always, I will keep you informed on any decisions and information as it is shared.
