Hertzog Headlines
recent happenings in 4th grade - March 14 - March 18
Whew! It seemed like a very long week as we anticipated Spring Break. I am looking forward to spending time with my own children and I hope you do the same. Hopefully we have some nicer, more spring-like weather coming. Just today, we began an online computer reading program that the students are eager to explore. Please encourage them to do so but also to get some fresh air and exercise. One student suggested 20 minutes on iStation (reading) one day and 20 minutes on TenMarks (math) the next. I think that is a great recommendation. Also, we have run out of tissues in our classroom. If you're out and about over break, we'd love a box or two to renew our classroom stash.
Academics
In ELA, we began talking about what is important to remember in our reading as well as began using the new chrome book reading program. In math we worked on representing decimals and being able to compare them. In Social Studies we reviewed our government unit and tested today! At first glace, it seems students did very well!
TenMarks Math Madness
Math Madness continues! We are involved in a nationwide competition with our math computer program. We have been setting goals and trying to complete as many assignments as possible. We are also trying to get our accuracy average above 80%. Please encourage your child to do TenMarks while on break and continuing working to help us reach our goals!
Multiplication
Be sure to continue working on multiplication facts! We have new multiplication accountability partners that are helping us reach our goal of 80 facts in 4 minutes, and look at the progress we've made!
Headphones/Earbuds Needed
Headphones or earbuds were on the school supply list at the beginning of the year, but many students have lost theirs or they have been broken. Please check with your student if they still have theirs or need new ones. We use them regularly and it will be required that students have some prior to MAP testing as there is a listening component.
