Professional Learning Opportunities
2016 GA Teacher Conservation Workshop-- the premier forestry and environmental education workshop for teachers and educators in Georgia. This year, the workshop will be held on June 20-24, 2016, at Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center and will focus on topics related to the benefits of forestry, including the cycle of growing trees, the utilization of trees for common consumer products and the management of trees for water and wildlife.Participants will be certified in Project Learning Tree, Project WILD and Project WET. Each attendee will a $100 check upon completion of a follow up activity.
Who should participate? The workshop is recommended for Georgia educators of grades 5-12, but other educators may apply.
How much does it cost? Our sponsors and partners include many organizations and companies from the forestry and wildlife communities. Sponsors underwrite all field trips, event lodging, meals and teacher resource kits, and the registration fee for participants is only $50.

Social Studies Frameworks
The Social Studies Department of the Georgia Department of Education is seeking highly qualified people in the field of education to hire as consultants for the upcoming Social Studies Frameworks updates and resource development. GaDOE is asking for recommendations for content experts to fill these positions. If you are interested in any of the opportunities listed below, please email Karen.
Teacher Notes – requires a deep knowledge of the content and the ability to explain the extent of what students need to know and understand about every standard and element
Social Studies Labs – requires an extensive knowledge of diverse source material and where to find them; must have the ability to create a comprehensive lesson, based on a good inquiry based question, and a body of supporting evidence
Online Course – Content – requires a deep knowledge of the content and the ability to create short coherent modules/mini lectures; needs to have experience with or be comfortable with different online technology platforms
Online Course – Pedagogy– requires an extensive knowledge of instructional tools for differentiation and scaffolding social studies content, as well as the ability to create short coherent modules/mini lectures; needs to have experience with or be comfortable with different online technology platforms
Frameworks Update – requires several years of experience teaching the recommended content/grade level; the ability to plan and sequence content appropriately within the school year in order to update the curriculum map and sample units, merging the content standards with literacy standards, enduring understandings/connecting themes, and social studies matrices
Virtual Ambassador – veteran teacher of the recommended content/grade level that is knowledgeable about the content, is experienced with adapting instructional practices for diverse learners and diverse learning environments; comfortable with different online technology platforms; can lead virtual monthly webinars and provide online support and advice for teaching the GSE for Social Studies
