Winter Park High School Band Notes
April 1, 2019
From Mr. Clemente
Congratulations to the 9 Band students who performed in last weekend's All-County Jazz ensembles. Both of the high school band clinicians were heaping praise onto all the students they worked with, which speaks volumes because both clinicians have performed with the best of the best throughout their careers. Well done Jorgan Gidus, Jeremy Fielder, Patrick Deloach, Leon Edge, Kaia Leavitt, David Johnston, Evan Bletz, Evan Jackson, and Daniel Sullivan!
The Winter Guard wrapped up a very successful season with their performance at FFCC Finals this past Friday in Daytona Beach. They finished the year with a Superior Rating and a score of 69.63. Their successes this year also included placing at two of their performances. See the Guard next at this year's Guard Showcase on Wednesday, May 8, 7 PM in the Auditorium.
LA TOUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES
I am working with our travel company to calculate a final trip cost per student. Unfortunately, the calculations are taking longer than I anticipated. As soon as that final trip cost has been calculated, I will be sending home a letter with your student explaining your financial status for the trip. As soon as you receive that letter, please do everything you can to pay off the rest of the trip quickly. Our final payment is due to the travel company mid-April, and the deadline is fast approaching. I would recommend paying up until the final April payment as listed on the Band website. That way when the final trip cost is calculated, which will only come down from the current total, you can pay an accurate balance. Please email me if you have any questions.
Over the next couple weeks we have Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I auditions approaching. I encourage students to reach out for help in their preparation in every way they can - private lesson teachers, myself, other music teachers at WP, other students, etc. The more comfortable you are with your preparation for the audition, the more confident your audition will be.
With this week being slightly less Band heavy than other weeks throughout the school year, I have been encouraging the students to take advantage of their time. They may have significant assignments coming up in other classes that they can get a head start on. They may be able to start looking at more advanced music to work on in private lessons. Whatever the case may be, I stresses to them last week to manage their time wisely as we approach the end of the school year. April tends to go by very quickly, and May even quicker, and we will be at the end of the school year before we know it.
Have a great week!

With the holiday season quickly approaching, this is an excellent tool to raise money for the Band every time you shop at Amazon. The Winter Park High School Alumni Band Association is a registered charity on Smile.Amazon.com, so please remember to use this unique link to shop at Amazon every time, and a small percentage of the sale (at no cost to you) will automatically be sent quarterly to the WPHSABAA account and then donated to the Winter Park Band Program.
