From the Desk of the Directors
As students get back into the routines of school, teachers will take some time to assess each students learning. Students will complete some standardized tests for math and reading. Teachers will be analyzing the results to determine instructional plans for each child. As you observe the classrooms you will notice a great deal of small group instruction being provided to meet the individual needs of each child. We are very proud of our teachers, assistants, and support staff that work diligently to accelerate student learning and to provide remediation when needed. If you have any concerns about how your child is progressing please make sure to meet with your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible and make sure all of your questions and concerns are addressed. Partnering together our students will soar into 2020!
Fight for Equity in School Funding - Update
Before the holiday break Governor Whitmer signed Senate Bill 154 that restored the $240 increase for charter schools. The funding will be retroactive to October 1 and paid out during this year.
We want to take time to thank each person who helped by writing letters, emailing or calling our elected officials. Your input did make a difference. We heard from both Senator Daley and Representative Howell that they heard you and were fighting to help correct this inequality.
We want to thank Senator Daley and Representative Howell, our elected legislators, for taking the time to respond and not using the funding for our children’s education as a political pawn. We hope that this situation of unequal funding for Charter Schools is permanently resolved. Please if you see them in the community thank them for supporting Chatfield School.

SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
It’s that time of year again when we must discuss school closings. As you know, the weather and roads can be an issue this time of year. Mr. Kraly and Mr. Young want you to know that they are always concerned about the safety of the students and parents. We will be working with the superintendents from other local school districts and the Lapeer Intermediate School District to determine the conditions around the county.
If your local district is closed that does not necessarily mean that Chatfield is closed.
The school directors will make the determination as early as possible and send out messages via:
Radio: WWJ 950, WJR 760, WMPC 1230
Television: Fox 2, Local 4, ABC 7, WWJTV CBS,
CW 50, ABC 12
Internet: www.chatfieldschool.org
Skylert School Messenger: Parents can adjust their contact preferences, E-mail, Text, Phone Call, by going into Skyward Family Access and clicking on the Skylert tab.
As a general rule of thumb Chatfield School does not have early release on days where the weather and roads become worse during the day. We will provide updates regarding the status of evening activities by posting them to the school website.

HERE IT COMES: THE P.I.E. UN-Fundraiser! Please support!
I really don't want to awkwardly ask my friends, family and coworkers AGAIN if they want to buy more wrapping paper, candy or cookie dough. I don't really want to let children wash my car and then have to go wash it again myself. I don't even bake for my family, so I don't really wantto bake for a fundraiser. I don't want to walk, swim or run in any activity that has the word 'thon' in it.
We're right there with you! This year, PIE is hoping to raise only the amount of money that we plan to spend this year, and then throw an even bigger and better bike rodeo next year to fuel two year's worth of projects again. In order to do this, we decided the best way to maintain our account balance would be to do an un-fundraiser... This would be in lieu of sending students home with the task of selling door to door, collecting money and delivering goods. Please help us avoid that by supporting PIE with your donation, and helping us achieve our goals to support our students and faculty.
There is not an official "due date" on this un-fundraiser. Some families may wish to send their donation in right away. Others may choose to wait until after the holidays. However, you decide, please decide to participate! We would appreciate all donations made by March or April. Donations from other families members like grandparents are also accepted. A thank you letter for tax purposes will be provided.
Please see the flyer below for details on how to make your contribution to the UN-fundraiser. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS ONLY FOR PIE, AND DOES NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF FUNDRAISERS FOR BAND AND / OR MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASS TRIPS.
Have Chatfield PRIDE!
